The 1 thing every new White Sox trade acquisition has in common

Chicago White Sox, White Sox News

The Chicago White Sox were among the busiest teams at this year’s trade deadline. Between Aug. 2 and the 5 p.m. CT deadline on Aug. 3, they acquired four players: right-hander Luis Castillo, reliever Huascar Brazoban, center fielder Brenton Doyle, and catcher Joey Bart.

To complete those deals, the White Sox parted with reliever Seranthony Domínguez, catcher Boston Smith, outfielder Nolan Jones, pitchers Gabe Davis, Zach Franklin, Mason Adams, and Duncan Davitt, as well as shortstop Carlos Vielma.

All told, general manager Chris Getz addressed every area he identified as a priority without dismantling the farm system he has spent years rebuilding. By strengthening the major league roster while preserving much of the organization’s prospect depth, the White Sox have positioned themselves to compete not only this season but for years to come.

Perhaps most importantly, each of Getz’s four trade acquisitions remains under team control beyond 2026, reinforcing that these moves were made with both the present and the future in mind.

Thirty-three-year-old Luis Castillo is under contract beyond this season after signing a five-year, $108 million deal with the Seattle Mariners. Following his trade to the White Sox, he is owed $24.15 million in 2027 and has a $25 million vesting option for 2028 that will trigger if he reaches 180 innings pitched in 2027.

Huascar Brazoban, who is already 36 years old, also provides long-term value, despite his age. He remains under team control for three additional seasons beyond 2026, all years of arbitration, giving the White Sox another controllable arm in the back end of their bullpen.

In the outfield, Brenton Doyle also has three years of arbitration left before free agency and catcher Joey Bart is under control through the 2027 season.

Taken together, those contract situations reveal a clear theme with Chris Getz’s trade deadline strategy. Rather than adding short-term rentals, the White Sox targeted players who can contribute immediately while remaining part of the club’s core beyond this season.
