Coby Bryant’s knee injury has dominated discussions among Chicago Bears fans. He sustained it during Monday’s padded practice, and the team’s medical staff carted him off the field. Defensive coordinator Dennis Allen’s unit suffered a huge blow and it has to deal with it with the start of the 2026 season looming.

The franchise signed the safety in the offseason following his Super Bowl win with the Seattle Seahawks. He brings championship experience to a team that needed to address the position. Chicago lost Kevin Byard, Jaquan Brisker and Jonathan Owens in free agency, leaving a gaping hole in its secondary.

Bryant appeared and started in 15 regular-season games last year. He recorded 66 combined tackles consisting of 27 assisted and 39 solo efforts along with four interceptions.

Allen addressed the media on Tuesday and gave an update about the team’s defense. He also shared his thoughts on Bryant’s injury and discussed what he needs from the other members of his unit.

“Obviously, it sucks to lose a guy like that for any particular time,” Allen said. “He’s a big part of what we have planned to do and will still be a big part of what we have planned to do. But in all adversity comes also opportunity. It’ll be another opportunity for some other guys to step up, whether it be somebody in the safety room to step up and take on that role in the room to step up and become the playmakers and the leaders for the defense.

“I mean, it just it’s part of it’s part of football. It’s part of what you deal with and you move on, so hopefully, he’ll be on the quicker end and we’ll get him back sooner rather than later.”

Reports indicate that Bryant will miss 8-10 weeks of action but could return as early as Week 3. The Bears will begin their 2026 regular season on Sept.13 when they visit the Carolina Panthers.
