‘That could kill her’: Calls mount to ban DiJonai Carrington after Sophie Cunningham incident
DiJonai Carrington’s Flagrant 2 foul on Sophie Cunningham on Saturday continues to steal the spotlight. The incident occurred late in the first quarter of the Indiana Fever-Chicago Sky game as Cunningham attacked the basket during a fast break. The Sky guard fouled her hard and hit her head, leading to a skirmish. Many have since called for the WNBA to ban Carrington.
Indiana defeated Chicago 90-86 to end its two-game slide. Kelsey Mitchell and Caitlin Clark powered the visiting team by combining for 53 points, nine rebounds, 11 assists and eight three-pointers. Aliyah Boston backed the dynamic backcourt duo with a 13-point, 11-rebound double-double. Cunningham finished with only three points and one rebound but once again provided a lot of energy off the bench.
Meanwhile, Carrington scored eight points. Natasha Cloud and Rachel Banham led the Sky with 17 points each, while Kamilla Cardoso produced 14 points and nine rebounds.

Fox TV personality wants the WNBA to suspend DiJonai Carrington
Fox News’ Joe Concha reacted to Carrington’s hard foul on Cunningham. He urged the WNBA to suspend the veteran guard for the remainder of the season and stressed how serious her action was.
“(She was) punched in the throat, that could kill her,” Concha said. “The people that run that league, if you’re DiJonai and you have a foul like that, I don’t want to hear about, ‘OK, that’s a Flagrant 2, and you get this sort of fine.’
“She should be suspended for the rest of the season. Because this is intentional. This was targeting Sophie Cunningham. I don’t care if the player is white or black. It does not matter. When you do this to somebody, this is horrible for the league.”

Fans also shared their thoughts in the comments section, with many agreeing with Concha’s take.
“The league is an absolute joke until they fix it top to bottom. Not worth my time and the NBA needs to drop their support,” one fan said.
“The wnba is currently a ghetto league as it stands. It should be embarrassing putting out that kind of product,” a reaction read.
“Such a trash, ghetto move. Only the worst would EVER do anything like that!

,” one user wrote.
“They probably wont suspend her just so more people will watch,” posted another.
“honestly the nba would’ve already made a decision by now, the wnba moving slower on stuff like this is wild to me,” another fan commented.
“Couldn’t agree more with the season-long suspension,” a comment read.
The league will likely further review the incident and decide what the sanction will be. Carrington and the Sky will return to action on Monday against the Seattle Storm. It remains to be seen if the WNBA will clear her to play.
