Caleb Williams, Chicago Bears

Caleb Williams and the Chicago Bears won their second consecutive game on Thursday. They defeated the New England Patriots 30-24 at Soldier Field but it came at a high price. Cole Kmet suffered a knee injury in the fourth quarter and was quickly ruled out for the remainder of the matchup. The star quarterback made a painful statement during a postgame interview.

Williams once again had an impressive performance. He completed 22-of-33 passes for 308 yards, two touchdowns and zero interceptions. It came just three days after he recorded 30-of-36 completions for 305 yards and one touchdown versus the Atlanta Falcons.

Meanwhile, Kmet amassed three receptions for 29 yards and added 10 YAC. He also made key blocks that allowed his teammates to either score or gain more yardage. The veteran tight end exited with his team ahead 27-21 after appearing to be in serious pain on the ground.

Chicago Bears: Caleb Williams discusses Cole Kmet’s knee injury

Williams immediately expressed concern as he saw his teammate carted off the field. He also stressed that he will support Kmet all the way.

“It was tough,” Williams said. “I don’t know exactly what it is, but getting carted off is never good. You’re at least going to miss some time. I don’t have the words to describe what Cole is to me, to this team, to this organization. He’s the longest-tenured Bear, I believe. He’s been through it and it’s challenging. It’s tough. I’ll be right there with him through every step of whatever the injury is. Cole’s been there for me every step of the way, through the first year, through the second year, and now through this year. I could only do the same for him.”

Kmet entered the league as Chicago’s No. 43 overall pick in the second round in 2020. He has remained with the franchise his entire NFL career and has received a lot of praise for being a consummate professional. The Bears will likely release an update about his status once all medical tests are completed.
