Chicago Bears: Ben Johnson provides encouraging update on Ozzy Trapilo’s potential return

Chicago Bears

As Week 5 approaches, the Chicago Bears gear up for their highly anticipated matchup with the Green Bay Packers.

There’s no love lost between these two NFC North rivals, especially after the Bears ended the Packers’ season in the Wild Card round last year. Not many matchups compare to this one, as many are excited about the next chapter in this historic rivalry. WR Luther Burden has already taken some shots at the Packers this week.

The Bears are 3-1, coming off an impressive victory at home against the New York Jets. The Packers come in at 2-2, as they won their past matchup this weekend against Tampa Bay, but looked shaky as they have all season.

Chicago is still dealing with some injury problems, as is every team, but could get a key player back this week. Head coach Ben Johnson spoke to the media today regarding tackle Ozzy Trapilo, who has been rehabbing from multiple injuries.

Ozzy would be a huge addition for the Bears, who are thin on the offensive line after Braxton Jones was placed on IR. Trapilo’s play last season was impressive, and it’s obvious this offense is patiently awaiting his return.

Johnson also threw a compliment in for Theo Benedet, who’s filled in during the absence.

The Chicago Bears could really use Ozzy Trapilo back on the offensive line

Ozzy Trapilo was a rookie last season, but found his way into the starting lineup six times over his 14 games played. His progression will be key for the Chicago Bears if they want to continue running the ball the way they have over the first few games.

The former Boston College Eagle is 6-foot-8, an imposing threat on the outside for EDGE rushers. GM Ryan Poles is also a BC alum, and scouted Trapilo heavily in the 2025 draft.

His return is improbable, to be honest. He tore his left patellar tendon in the 2025 Wild Card game against the Packers and was projected to miss most of this season. Trapilo’s rehab has been a true success thus far.

It’ll be interesting to see if Braxton Jones returns to the starting lineup once he comes off the IR, especially if Ozzy is healthy and ready to go.
