Chicago Bears get much-needed good news on injured offensive weapon

Chicago Bears

Later tonight, the Chicago Bears will host the New England Patriots in a highly anticipated Week 7 matchup.

Both teams enter the week at 4-and-2, coming off victories in Week 6. The Bears are coming off an impressive road victory in Atlanta, where they controlled most of the game. At the end, the Falcons stormed back, but were dealt the loss. New England is coming off a home victory where they beat the New York Jets.

Short weeks are tough for every NFL team, especially when the injuries are mounting up. The Bears are no exception, as yesterday they learned that RB Kyle Monangai was ruled OUT for the third straight week with his turf toe/thumb injuries.

On the bright side, the Bears did receive some good news on the Monangai front, as he could be back sooner than expected. Today, NFL reporter Ian Rapoport spoke on the running back’s health.

A few weeks ago, it was said that Monangai was to miss “three or four” weeks, which is lining up to be correct after the most recent update. “This is the third game he (Kyle Monangai) is out, but potentially he is nearing a return,” Rapoport said on Good Morning Football.

The rushing attack could sure use him. He was playing the best football of his career before the injuries.

Thankfully, the Chicago Bears received good news on the Kyle Monangai front today. They could surely use him going forward as the offense ramps up for the meat of this NFL season.

Unfortunately, the schedule doesn’t get any easier for the Bears. After tonight’s game with the Pats, they’ll travel to Seattle to take on the defending champion Seahawks. It’ll be back-to-back primetime games for Chicago, with this one being on Monday night.

In the following week, they’ll host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before hitting their Week 10 bye. Assuming things go as planned, the Bears could be in a pretty good spot come that time. In a year where the NFC North is this good, they need every win they can get at this point of the season.

If they can take one of the next two, and then handle business against a struggling Tampa Bay team, they’ll be set up nicely for the latter half of the schedule.
