Chicago Bears offensive line suffers massive injury blow amid Falcons battle
The Chicago Bears held a comfortable 31-7 at the start of the fourth quarter in their Week 6 battle for the Atlanta Falcons. However, not everything has been good news for Chicago on Sunday.
Right guard Jonah Jackson was forced to leave the game with a hip injury. He is now doubtful to return with a hip injury, via Courtney Cronin of ESPN.
With the Bears holding a big lead, perhaps the franchise is playing things cautiously. But Jackson immediately getting the doubtful tag will certainly lead to some concerns. How much he is able to participate in practice, especially with a Thursday Night Football matchup in Week 7, will be telling of how serious Jackson’s injury is.
Losing Jackson for any amount of time beyond Week 6 would be a massive blow for Chicago. Entering the Falcons clash, his 83.5 grade from Pro Football Focus ranked sixth/75 guards. Jackson has become a key cog in the Bears’ rebuilt offensive line.
In his absence, Luke Newman stepped in at right guard. Newman was a sixth-round pick by the Bears in 2025. While Chicago believes in his potential, Newman has minimal experience playing at the NFL level. He’ll be asked to take quite the forward if Jackson misses time. At least in Week 6, he’ll begin to get an understanding of what it takes to succeed.
For now, the Bears are focused on closing out a win against the Falcons. Once the game is over and more tests happen, Chicago will have a better understanding of where Jackson stands.
