Report: Chicago Bears eyed Colts All-Pro before Seahawks trade
With the trade deadline rapidly approaching, teams around the NFL are deciphering how exactly they want to build their roster. That includes the Chicago Bears, who at 5-2 are expected to be aggressive at the deadline.
On the surface, it seems like the Bears are targeting any defensive stars available. Chicago’s secondary has struggled mightily and the team could afford some extra thump when rushing the passer. The franchise has been tied to many of the defensive targets deemed available before the deadline.
But adding to the offense can’t be ruled out. With head coach Ben Johnson running things, he is always going to look for improvement on that side of the ball from the Bears. And if he sees an area that needs clear change, he isn’t afraid to make it.
Those ideals will help drive Chicago’s deadline discourse. As it turns out, Johnson and company already had their eyes on making an offensive line blockbuster.
Chicago Bears had Quentin Nelson trade talks

On Tuesday, the Indianapolis Colts traded left guard Quenton Nelson to the Seattle Seahawks. Before that deal went through, the Bears were one of the teams reportedly showing interest in a trade, via Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.
“The Packers, Bears and Eagles were among teams that showed varying levels of interest in Quenton Nelson, per source. His market was strong,” Fowler wrote.
Nelson is an eight-time Pro Bowler and a three-time First-team All-Pro. During the 2026 campaign, his 85.7 grade from Pro Football Focus ranks third/74 guards. With a player that talented becoming available, the Bears wanted to do their due diligence.
Had Nelson joined the team, his configuration would be a bit awkward, as Joe Thuney is currently Chicago’s left guard. The reigning Protector of the Year does have experience at left tackle, which would seemingly be the easiest fix. There’s no denying Nelson and Thuney on the left and Jonah Jackson and Darnell Wright on the right would give the Bears one of the more imposing offensive lines in recently memory.
Ultimately though, Nelson to the Bears will remain a ‘what if?’ If nothing else, Chicago’s interest shows they’re serious about making a trade deadline splash.
