White Sox have golden chance to give fans something they haven’t seen in 120 years

The Chicago White Sox are a perfect 4-0 in the 2026 postseason, with all four victories coming on the road. After sweeping the Houston Astros in the Wild Card Series, the White Sox won the first two games of their Division Series matchup against the Cleveland Guardians.

Now, the White Sox are just one win away from their first American League Championship Series appearance since 2005, the same year they last won the World Series. Even better, they’ll have two chances to punch their ticket to the next round on their home field, with Game 3 and 4, if necessary, set to be played in Chicago.

Interestingly, in what is currently the 12th postseason appearance in franchise history, Wednesday’s Game 3 will mark just the second time the White Sox have had a chance to clinch a postseason series at home. The only other occurrence came in 1906, when Chicago won Game 6 of the World Series to capture the championship.

As Jolly Olive pointed out in the info graphic below on X, each of the White Sox’s last three postseason appearances ended in losses. In 2005, however, Chicago advanced through both the ALDS and ALCS on the road before completing the sweep of the Houston Astros in the World Series on the road as well.

The White Sox haven’t clinched a postseason series at home in 120 YEARS.

The six postseason appearances prior to 2005 also failed to produce a series-clinching win at home. The lone exception came in the franchise’s very first postseason appearance in 1906, when the White Sox clinched the World Series at South Side Park by defeating the Chicago Cubs, who played their home games at West Side Park, in a historic matchup between two teams from the same city.

Now, 120 years after their last home postseason series clincher, the White Sox have a chance to make history once again. With a 2-0 series lead and two opportunities to finish the job in front of their home fans, Chicago has everything it needs to end a remarkable drought. A Game 3 victory would not only send the White Sox to their first ALCS since 2005, but also give a new generation of fans a postseason memory they have never experienced before.
