Flying Saucers 101 by Harold E. Burt

Looking through my UFO books, I came across this 2000 book by Harold E. Burt, published by A UFO Book, UFO magazine:

I don’t know anything about Mr. Burt but I enjoyed reading his extensive comments about UFOs, covering everything it seems from ancient times right up to the publication of his book (with a great index, and edited, nicely, by Nancy Birnes, Bill Birnes’ wife):

There is a lot of material that I’d like to present but, for now, I want (you) to look at the Voronezh UFO landing, in that Russian city, on September 21, 1989 [Page 303 ff.]

You know the story (as allegedly reported in The New York Times): “… several children were playing on Mendeleyen Street [when] a strange craft landed nearby and two large beings got out along with … a robot (“a mechanical man”). The beings look around for approximately 5 minutes, got back in the ship and took off.”

“One week later several [sic] shiny disks landed all at once in different parts of the city. The most dramatic incident occurred … in Zavodsk Square. A group of children [again!] were playing soccer in the park when the ships landed. A small being got out, accompanied by two ‘giants’ over 10 feet tall. They, too, had a robot with them, and a floating globe. (The drawing is by Christine “Kesara” Dennett, for the book)

When the citizens … started shouting at them, the beings and the craft suddenly disappeared only to reappear a few minutes later. One of the beings aimed a device at boy who apparently ran up for a closer look. The kid disappeared. Later after the ship took off, the kid reappeared; no harm done.” [Page 305]

Burt includes a piece from Tass, the official Russian New Service, that said “Scientists have confirmed that an unidentified flying object recently landed in the city of Voronezh. They have also located the landing site and found traces of aliens …

“There were literally hundreds of eyewitnesses whose stories all concurred. There were deep holes left in the ground and scientists estimated from these holes that the craft weighed over 11 tons. In addition , there were increased levels of radiation and magnetization in the soil where the craft had been.” [ibid]

Burt continues, “Such a furor was created in Europe over the landing that even famous French UFO researcher Jacques Vallee came to investigate.” [ibid]

These two accounts have always fascinated me, because of the “attendant” robot, and now the “disappearing” boy.

Any input you might have, from credible sources, would be welcome, Theo et al.?
