Everyone needs attention, and some should get it

I hope a few of you see what I’m seeing: UFO enthusiasts striving for the spotlight.

Since I rarely make the internet circuit for my UFO nourishment, I come across UFO materials on Facebook, where, unfortunately, I set up my MediaWatch effort some years ago.

I’ve joined quite a few UFO groups there – some crappy but most actually very good, providing current UFO news and links to interesting UFO topics and events/sightings, what-have-you.

But I’m also seeing UFO newbies, hoping to get a name in ufological circles by extolling their UFO “studies” and/or “research.” which mostly means they’re reading about UFOs and seeking UFO stuff online.

Then there are the UFO old-timers, who having not made a mark in UFO circles, after many years of trying, showcasing their gardens, or cars, or illnesses, et cetera, vainly hoping for some notice from their peers.

(Many of these people – guys mostly – irritated that Nick Pope has been able to capitalize on his MoD experience, slugging his work every chance they get, to no avail, thankfully.)

Next we have the do-something crowd, mostly middle-agers, who actually provide a good amount of worthwhile thought and material.

These include Micah Hanks, my pal Nick Redfern, whose prolific output is always worthy of perusal, Isaac Koi, the British barrister/lawyer who is scanning and has scanned a momentous amount of UFO periodicals, newsletters, et cetera, from the past salvaging them for true researchers, when true researchers finally take on the UFO topic, and a few others whose output via books, web-sites, and sometimes podcasts, give heft to the UFO discussion.

The women of Ufology often slide into fashion and associations with UFO biggies in the past, but a few, like Cheryl Costa, produce work or data that enhances a real study of the phenomenon.

Getting noticed among UFO groupies is no mean feat, almost everyone is trying to outdo their peers.

This wasn’t always the case. In the past, some UFO-oriented persons just wanted an explanation for UFOs; Donald Kehoe and Richard Hall come to mind.

Today, as in society generally, UFOers want to be influencers or “names” but few have the moxie or cachet.

But the man or woman who comes up with a reasonable or reasoned guess for what UFOs are will get their due, even if it is just within the UFO community. After all, some think that’s where they can make a mark, fame for them in the real world never going to happen.
