Survivalist Scam? Have You Received This Email?

Got this in my personal email today (below), supposedly from Jamie Canterbury – the co-owner (along with Dave Canterbury) of the Pathfinder School, Self-Reliance Illustrated, etc – explaining about the tragic events that befell him during an “emergency trip” to Manila, complete with (of course) an appeal to send him money to help him pay for his expenses and get back home.  I’ve had email correspondence with Jamie in the past and the address that the email came from is actually his, so I can only assume that his email address got hacked.

Jamie’s credentials are listed in the email with what I can only imagine to be a cunning attempt to trick those of us in the Survival/Self-Reliance world (we’re so well known for being chumps, right?).  Both Jamie and Dave are a class operation and it seems ludicrous that they would need to play the “Nigerian prince in need” routine (do people really still fall for these types of email scams anymore??)

Anyway…  I know, some of you may be saying “Yeah, yeah…  So what? People get their email addresses hacked all the time”, but the reason why I’m posting this is to let people in the survival community, who may be on Jamie’s email list know that your email may be compromised and you should change your email password! Also, if you know Jamie Canterbury and can get in touch with by another means besides email (I don’t know if I still have his number), let him know his email has been hacked!
