Why Are World Leaders Acting Surprised the NSA is Spying on Them?

Just a simple question.

For months, the entire world has been privy to one Edward Snowden leak after another. The former-NSA contractor turned whistleblower has released one shocking document after another after another (after another), painting the picture with crystal clarity that the U.S. government is officially tapping and spying on the world, including American citizens, Constitution and laws be damned.

Now it has come out that the U.S. has been listening in on the phone conversations of at least 35 world leaders:

The National Security Agency eavesdropped on hundreds of phone numbers belonging to dozens of world leaders, newly leaked documents supplied by former intelligence contractor Edward Snowden reveal.

Britain’s Guardian newspaper wrote Thursday that a classified memo provided to them by Snowden suggests that the NSA encouraged officials within the United States government and intelligence community to share among their colleagues contact information pertaining to international heads of state.

According to the Guardian, the memo made reference to an unnamed US official who had reportedly supplied the NSA with over 200 numbers, including 35 belonging to world leaders. (source)

I wrote “at least 35 world leaders” because it’s really all of them. Why do I know that? Common sense. The better question? Why are they acting like they don’t know it?

It’s beyond ridiculous that world leaders are actually acting shocked. First the Mexican president was supposedly mad the NSA hacked his email, then France got ticked off when it came out that French diplomats had been spied on, along with 70-plus million other French people whose phone calls were listened to…

How many news stories are there this week with pictures of German Chancellor Angela Merkel making a face like she just swallowed a lemon dipped in alum, holding up her NSA tapped cell phone bitterly?

Yeah lady, you were spied on too. Someone give her a Tony Award for even managing to act surprised.

Actually, we aren’t seeing “shock”. We aren’t even seeing legitimate anger at the personal realization these people are not as elite and their butts are not as firmly planted on a pedestal above the common plebs as they thought…at least, not in the eyes of the U.S. government.

Now that everyone else knows because NSA spying is front page news, these people pretty much have to act mad to keep up pretenses.

Because when it comes to Uncle Sam’s spying, it’s clear it doesn’t matter if you are a world leader or a bus driver from Altoona, Pennsylvania. There is no caste system, although to think they wouldn’t be more interested in world leaders than the little people is just silly.

Bottom line: there is no discrimination, no special differentiation. Absolutely everyone is being spied on. (In fact, that last sentence is probably engraved into one of those fancy wooden plaques hanging above the coffee maker in an NSA break room. Their theme song is probably “Eye in the Sky” by the Alan Parsons Project. For real.)

Do you hear that, world leaders? All of you are being spied on. Please stop humoring us with feigned outrage. You aren’t better than anyone else when it comes to the NSA spying on you. You are not above it. Your guys are doing it, too. Everyone is.

How do I know this? Am I a former NSA contractor? A genius mind-reader clairvoyant star child?

Nope. It’s common sense at this point. That stuff has been going on since before Snowden was even born. The word “Duh!” is appropriate here.

The tech just got better over time. The not-to-secret writing is on the virtual wall. If Edward Snowden released a PowerPoint tomorrow that detailed how the NSA managed to put the whole world in a giant box and we’re all living like Jim Carey in our own personal U.S.A.-sponsored reality shows a la the film The Truman Show, I would probably read it, yawn, and go back to what I was doing without a second thought because that’s how far gone American Big Brother is. The novel 1984 by George Orwell is their personal instructional manual.

The fact that these people can muster up the emotion to even begin to act indignant for the cameras at this point in time makes it worrisome they are our “world leaders”.

By the way, whining to the E.U. all of a sudden like they didn’t know what was up is pathetic, too. Not only did they know, but to act mad now is like they are openly admitting it was just fine when the NSA was doing it to us, but now that they have to acknowledge they’re all spying on each other, they are going to go tattle and Merkel’s going to make press statements demanding the U.S. has to rebuild her broken trust.

Whatever lady.

Even if the U.S. apologizes on record, tosses you all an official, “Oh, my bad, we won’t do that again,” it’s going to be for diplomatic show, mostly for the sheeple’s benefit.

Dear everyone. The gameshow is rigged. Governments don’t build $3 billion spy hubs out in the middle of the desert equipped to handle exabytesof information to not spy.

These people are all the real-life equivalent of Casablanca’s Captain Louis Renault who was shocked, shocked! to find out gambling was going on in the club as he is being handed his winnings.
