Blaming the Second Amendment for Black Deaths a Tactic for Disarming All

U.S.A. – -(Ammoland.com)- “The Thanksgiving tragedy in Hoover, Ala., highlights an American problem: The deaths of black men, legally armed and who have committed no crime, at the hands of police,” The Christian Science Monitor observes. “At a time when the president and guns rights activists have suggested that ‘good guys with guns’ are a solution for stopping mass shooters, some black gun owners are wondering if ‘helping while black’ is too dangerous.”

The writer has a point. But the “solution” is not to blame the Second Amendment. And that’s just what some agitators with a megaphone and an agenda are doing.

“At this point, you start to realize that really the Second Amendment is not intended for black people,” South African import and “Daily Show” host Trevor Noah declared. “It’s an uncomfortable thing to say, but it’s the truth. Like people will be like ‘the right to bear arms.’ Yes, the right to bear arms if you’re not a black man. If you’re a black man, you have no business bearing arms at all.”

That’s hardly the fault of the Second Amendment or of advocates of the right to keep and bear arms. But that doesn’t stop those opposed to the right from exploiting the deaths and saying it is to advance their agenda of control. And it doesn’t stop others from conflating the criminal abuse of guns with lawful ownership and use.

“Gun homicides are driving down life expectancy rates among young black Americans — nearly twice as much as their white counterparts, according to a new Boston University study,” The Boston Herald states, citing the work of Boston University School of Medicine’s Dr. Bindu Kalesan. That the problem is so severe for this group when it is virtually non-existent for the millions of members of the NRA, arguably the most heavily-armed civilian population on the planet, is left unmentioned.

If anything is an indicator the problem isn’t with the guns, that reality ought to give Kalesan a good clue. Then again, we’re talking about someone whose past claim that “[i]mplementing three state gun control laws at the federal level could reduce the rate of American gun deaths by more than 90%” was reviewed and found ludicrous:

“[L]eading gun violence researchers have called that result ‘implausible,’ and said the study’s design is so flawed that some of its findings are not believable.”

In addition to the disproportionate prevalence of violent crime within populations most directly affected by and responsive to a continuing history of so-called “progressive” government policies, we can also look at attitudes of those that “govern” such populations. Case in point, former Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy went out of his way to scare off “good guys with guns” in a city notorious for minority community homicides:

“I don’t care if they’re licensed legal firearms,” McCarthy declared.  “I’ll train our officers that there is a concealed carry law, but when somebody turns with a firearm in their hand the officer does not have an obligation to wait to get shot to return fire and we’re going to have tragedies as a result of that. I’m telling you right up front.”

Gun-grabber supreme and potential 2020 presidential candidate Michael Bloomberg went so far as to advocate seizing guns from minority males under 25 – and then blocked the release of his recorded speech. As an aside, that’s information we can and should use as he pursues political ambitions and further aggressions against our rights.

In fact, “gun control” in this country has had discriminatory motives from the start, as Clayton Cramer revealed in his now-classic “The Racist Roots of Gun Control,” with first the “slave codes” forbidding ownership of weapons and the later “black codes.” The infamous Dred Scott decision even got the Supreme Court to weigh in with the opinion that blacks could not be recognized as citizens because, among other things, “It would give to persons of the negro race … the right to … keep and carry arms wherever they went.”

What’s curious is that it’s not the recognized “leaders” of the “black community” sharing such information, or sharing memories of armed civil rights efforts exemplified by groups like the Deacons for Defense and Justice, or by colorful historical figures like Mary Fields,  above, “the first African American female star route mail carrier in the United States.”

Instead, amid cries of “Black Lives Matter,” we see cognitive dissonance from those “leaders” who respond by demanding citizen disarmament. Their contradictory “solution” is to make sure the enforcers they accuse of killing them are the “Only Ones” with guns.

And they disparage and condemn those advocating for the right of the people to keep and bear arms regardless of race.
