A World of Hurt: Now Available!
Roughly seven weeks before he was assassinated, Charlie Kirk sat down with Tucker Carlson for what would become one of his final interviews. Charlie spent more time on college campuses than anyone in America, and he came away with a warning few wanted to hear.
The young people he met were losing hope. The dollar buys less every year. A home is out of reach for an entire generation. Student loans, credit cards, and car payments chain them to an endless cycle of debt. And when people lose hope in the system, they go looking for someone who promises to tear it down.
Charlie put the question plainly: “Can we reorder the economic reality before deep dark radicalization sets in?” If we couldn’t, he warned, we were not going to like the politics on the other side. He pointed to the rise of Zohran Mamdani in New York City as a coming attraction for where the country was headed. If the problem wasn’t fixed, he said, “we are going to get a Venezuelan-style, youth-led revolt.” He added, “Happy people don’t get behind Lenin, and they certainly don’t get behind Chavez or Castro.”
And finally, the line that made the hair stand up on the back of my neck, like a word of knowledge from an Old Testament prophet: “I know what’s coming next because I spend more time on college campuses than anyone… People compare me to like—Paul Revere, and it’s like I’m warning of something that’s coming. The Bolsheviks are coming; the Bolsheviks are coming!”
Charlie didn’t live to see how right he was. The rest of us are watching it unfold in real time. Charlie called Mamdani a preview. That preview became the main feature when Mamdani, a member of the Democratic Socialists of America, won the race for mayor of New York City in November 2025, the largest city in the nation now run by an avowed socialist.
It didn’t stop there. In this year’s primaries, the DSA endorsed 282 candidates across the country, according to an analysis by the Brookings Institution. In New York, DSA-backed challenger Darializa Avila Chevalier knocked off sitting Congressman Adriano Espaillat. The New York City DSA chapter ran ten races and won nine. Outside Denver, a democratic socialist challenger unseated a fifteen-term incumbent congresswoman. In Washington, DC, DSA member Janeese Lewis George won the Democratic primary for mayor.
These are not campus protests or fringe rallies. These are people who will write laws, set budgets, and control police departments.
Then, in August, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez made it official. The congresswoman had joined the Democratic Socialists of America in 2018, but her membership quietly lapsed the following year. This summer she renewed it, and DSA publicly declared her a “member in good standing,” citing ongoing discussions about a 2028 presidential campaign. AOC leads some early polls of potential Democratic presidential candidates. The most recognizable young face in her party has planted her flag with the socialists, just as the race for the White House takes shape.
If you want to know where this is headed, look at younger voters. A new OnMessage poll reported by The Daily Signal and ZeroHedge found that 84% of Gen Z Democrats hold a favorable view of socialism. More than 30% of all Americans now say the same. As pollster Henry Parkhurst put it, “Embracing socialism is no longer a fringe talking point for Democratic voters.”
Read that again. Eight out of ten young Democrats look at the ideology behind Lenin, Chavez, and Castro, the very names Charlie invoked, and they like what they see. These are the voters of the next twenty years. They don’t remember Soviet breadlines or Venezuela’s collapse. They only know the system isn’t working for them, and someone is promising them everything.
Charlie Kirk understood that the greatest threat to America is not a foreign army. It is the slow, steady radicalization of a generation that has been taught that God is a fairy tale and that government is the answer to every problem. Hopelessness is the fuel. Socialism is the match.
The prophet Isaiah was told that the people would not hear, would not understand, and would not turn until the land was laid waste. Charlie answered that same call, “Here I am; send me,” knowing full well that many would not listen.
He sounded the alarm. The polls, the primaries, and the politicians are now confirming every word of it. The Bolsheviks are not coming. They are already here, and they are winning elections. The question is no longer whether this happens. The question is whether you will be ready when it does.
I found Charlie’s warning so prescient that it inspired me to write my newest book, A World of Hurt, which is now available in all formats.
The inherent vice of capitalism is the unequal sharing of blessings; the inherent virtue of socialism is the equal sharing of miseries.
Winston Churchill
Tommy Morgan hit a home run straight out of college, landing a killer job with Miami private equity firm Venue Capital. Tommy made more money than he ever imagined riding the melt-up triggered by the government’s run-it-hot policy. However, the recent increase in AI productivity is crushing the US job market and wrecking the economy. After losing ground to double-digit price inflation and a burgeoning housing affordability crisis, American workers displaced by AI are sinking. Most are living on government handouts, and many are facing homelessness. This constituency blames the current administration for its misfortune, providing the perfect platform for Socialist candidate Kendall Esperanza, who promises national rent control, free childcare, and universal basic income, all funded by a massive wealth tax.
Esperanza leads the polls in the three-way race for the Oval Office. So, the general partners at Venue Capital devise a strategy to keep the company afloat. Tommy is sent to Paris to lead Venue Europe along with his coworker, Jackie. The move strains his relationship with long-time girlfriend, Ella.
However, when none of the presidential candidates secure sufficient electoral votes for the presidency, the contingent election goes to the House of Representatives. The popular vote and the selection by the House are not in agreement, sparking massive protests across the country. The uncertainty triggers panic in US debt markets, initiating a massive sell-off in Treasuries. And since US bonds are such a large part of the Euro Zone’s reserves, the crisis spreads like wildfire, crippling the European banking system.
The turmoil spreads to Paris, where general strikes bring the city to a halt. Tommy and Jackie are trapped in a foreign country that is coming unglued. Their credit cards are canceled, the airports are closed, and they’re unwelcome guests in a city that is devolving into chaos. If they don’t find a way home, they won’t survive the week.
