Thank You, Sheriff Al Cannon!
A few local Charleston County residents are all wee-wee’d up (to use a silly term coined by your distinguished Commander in Chief) over some remarks made by Sheriff Joe Cannon (see this article). So now, according to the Charleston City Paper, there is a petition circulating for people to sign up and demand his resignation. Well, wooptie-freaking -doo.
Cannon said simply that he would not enforce any laws that violate our Constitutional rights. He never said he is judge and jury. Left unsaid in the report is the prospect of the government confiscating firearms from honest, law abiding citizens, leaving them unprotected from not only lawless home invaders and thugs, but also from a tyrannical government gone wild. Including, yes, actions taken by cops that are “just following orders” from their commanders. It has already happened before, as you’ll see momentarily.
Well, good for Sheriff Cannon for taking a stand, along with other sheriffs across the country. He, as I do, thinks that confiscation of firearms from law abiding citizens is unconstitutional, whether a “law” or “executive order” was issued authorizing it or not. Unless the Second Amendment is repealed or modified through established legal processes, such actions are illegal. It doesn’t take a federal judge to figure that out. Case closed.
If you never heard about what happened in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, spend a few minutes looking at these two videos. It is shocking. It could happen here if it were not for people like Al Cannon that will not abide it. Thanks, Sheriff! I just knew I voted for the right guy.
