Why Cuccinelli lost?…… Mikey did it!
Why Cuccinelli lost?…. Mikey did it!
God blessed me with great children yet I remember some of the early struggles we had raising them. One such memory was when my son was constantly getting in trouble for talking in school. I would ask him why he continued to talk in class and he would answer, Mikey keeps talking to me. Over and over he would blame Mikey for talking. Finally after listening to the excuse way too long I told my son that the next time he is caught talking in class he would be punished. Of course the fear of punishment worked where logic failed. But to this day my son would say the reason he got in so much trouble in grade school was because of Mikey.
I tell you this story as an analogy to what assuredly will be long debates and discussions about why Cuccinelli lost in Virginia. Already I am hearing the GOP blame everyone else except themselves for the loss, in other words Mikey did it! For the GOP Mikey will have many alias’s but still in the end the reality is they’ll blame everyone else rather than themselves for the loss.
The first Mikey in this story is the Democrat funded, 3rd party candidate, Sarvis. Election Day the GOP finally notices this! The GOP finally acknowledged the spending after being berated by others for NOT adequately funding Cuccinelli. The RNC spent $9 million in 2009 to help elect the now scandal ridden Bob McDonnell. McDonnell is under criminal investigation over allegations that he and his family received various “gifts”. McDonnell failed to disclose expensive gifts from wealthy donors—including designer clothes for his wife, a wedding banquet for his daughter, a hummer stretch limousine, and a Rolex watch—leading to accusations of bribery, in other words a member of the GOP elite. The GOP only spent $3 million this time, pulling money out of Virginia, to lose by a hair. The GOP truly screwed up in Virginia by NOT properly funding Cuccinelli this time and no amount of spinning can distract from that screw up.
Cuccinelli had all the insiders at the RNC aligned against him. He was the outsider, a TEA Party darling, and this is an unforgiveable alignment to the GOP establishment. Cuccinelli made the strategic blunder to try to work their way inside instead of dancing with the folks who got him to the dance. This pattern is being repeated all across the country. The GOP establishment’s new strategy is to not only distance themselves from the TEA Party/Patriot movement but to avidly attack any candidates who are aligned as such. This as you can see is a losing strategy and the GOP continues to say, “Mikey did it!”
Ironically the one thing that seemed to turn the tide that even money could not was Obamacare. Cuccinelli made a concerted effort to make Obamacare the central theme of his campaign in the waning days, and it worked. The Cuccinelli campaign began to pick up momentum as he touted the failure of Obamacare, which by the way is a TEA Party mantra. Unfortunately the GOP will blame the “social conservatives” for the loss as well and use the excuse to continue to pull the GOP towards the middle another “Mikey Moment”.
In the end the results are in and it will be up to those who are not blinded by the excuse that “Mikey Did It!” and begin to identify the real reasons Cuccinelli lost. The GOP failed to properly fund the Cuccinelli campaign, they failed to publically and privately support the Cuccinelli campaign and finally failed to acknowledge that the Cuccinelli campaign will be repeated over and over again across the nation and the wins and losses are up to the GOP to turn around and not Mikey! Let’s hope the GOP figures this one out quickly, as 2014 will happen and Mikey may not be there the next time to be kicked around. Just Sayin’

Actually, the reason that Cucinelli lost is because the MAJORITY of Virginians
felt he, as well as at least 1 of his running mates, was too bat crap nuts and
WAY too extreme for the changing demographics of the state.
White male conservatives are no longer the majority in Virginia. Take a good,
hard, LONG look at why George Allen lost to Jim Web, who wasn’t supposed to even
come close to the x-governor and current senator. The combative, foot-in-mouth
Bubba style extremism no longer works. Oh, it make work in the western part of
the state because of the homogeneity racial make-up. But in the east, and in
particular, in Northern Virginia, that make-up is no more and will never be
again.
The GOTP sank itself by a closed convention which ensured its own candidates
would win. It also ensured its own defeat by nominating 2 out of 3 total
extremists. It absolutely ensured that the GOP would lose the Lt. Gov.
position. As an independent female voter for 40 years, I had to shake my head
in amazement at the absolute stupidity and ignorance displayed by the party.
The 1 person I would have voted for, and I have voted more GOP over the years
than not, was shut out because of TP stupidity. I would have GLADLY voted for
Bill Bolling as his was a more moderate and agreeable candidate than Cucinelli
could ever been.
Remember this – you may fire up your base of extreme conservatives, but you have
WIN a MAJORITY of the voters. And THAT includes BOTH SIDES, not just a small
percentage of 1. And if you can’t do that, you WILL LOSE.
