Trump Says He’ll Turn Into ‘Mr. Veto’ And Issue Preemptive Pardons If Dems Dominate Midterms

President Trump said that if Democrats win the House or the Senate on Tuesday, he will govern by veto until the two sides cut a deal, telling Fox News’ Miranda Devine that he would “become Mr. Veto.”

“Well, if that happens, I guess I’ll become Mr. Veto,” Trump said, adding that “at some point we’ll probably make deals. That’s what’s happened. I mean, this wouldn’t be the first time.”

Trump then explained the process. “You’ll have a president, and you won’t have the House or the Senate,” he said. “They’ll be sending stuff up. You veto it.” Eventually, he said, “after a month or two of getting all vetoed, you know, they come over and you make a deal. I think that probably would happen, but hopefully we don’t have to worry about that.”

Trump also said he’d move to protect Elon Musk if Democrats come after the SpaceX and Tesla CEO following midterms.

“It’s talk. But if it is talk, we’ll have to protect them,” Trump said.

Musk has spent nearly half a billion dollars opposing Democrats during this election cycle and recently suggested it would be the end of democracy if they win the White House and Congress in 2028. -Axios

The remarks come after weeks of the same message. On Oct. 23, speaking to reporters on the South Lawn, Trump said that in a gridlocked Congress “I veto everything,” adding that Democrats “then come and they say, how do we get it done?” Days later, asked whether he would accept the results, he said he would respect them “if they’re honest elections,” and added, “I have a strong veto.”

The forecasts he is answering point one way. A CBS News/YouGov survey fielded Oct. 21-23, carried by the Indian wire ANI, projected Democrats winning 229 House seats of 435, well past the 218 needed. Colorado Politics reported that Democrats are also pushing in Texas, Iowa, Kansas and Alaska for the Senate, where Republicans can hold control at 50 seats because Vice President JD Vance breaks ties. Rep. Hakeem Jeffries is widely expected to become speaker if the House flips.

According to Polymarket, Dems have a 74% chance of sweeping the House and Senate.

Asked what his final message to voters would be, Trump turned to the economy, according to the Daily Mail. “Individual income is the highest it’s ever been,” he told Devine. “We have more jobs than we’ve ever had in the history of our country by far. In other words, more people are working right now than ever,” he said, adding, “Our military is the strongest. We’re manufacturing again.”

The data: employers added just 29,000 jobs in September, July’s figure was revised negative, and wages are rising more slowly than prices. It reported that consumer sentiment fell to a five-month low in October, with gas above $4 a gallon, and that employers added roughly 612,000 jobs in 2026 against about 1.46 million in 2024, though average wages are up 3 percent year over year. We have not independently checked those figures against Bureau of Labor Statistics releases.

Trump closes the campaign Monday with a speech at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, which a White House official described as his final campaign message, aimed at helping Republicans keep control of Congress.
