What You Need to Know about Scuba Diving in Aruba

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Again in the islands with Michel it’s time to get to know a bit more about the fantastic Aruba. A dream place for any traveler and even more dreamy for those who dive! :)

Aruba is one of the best destinations for spending vacations. Many tourists love this place because of its stunning world-class beaches, restaurants, casinos and shopping malls. It is one of the most visited cosmopolitan islands in Caribbean, surrounded by beaches. It is also known as a great attraction for diving enthusiasts. Another reason why dive tourists flock to this place is the abundance of shipwrecks in the area. These are ideal for divers looking for a once in a lifetime experience.

The shipwreck of Antilla, a cargo ship that sunk during the World War II, is the one of the largest wrecks found in the Caribbean waters, and this is one of the reasons that make Aruba a must-visit place for all scuba fanatics. The Antilla was a cargo ship owned by Germany with a length of 400 feet. To keep it away from enemy hands, it was sunk by its captain during the World War II. The wreck is waiting for divers to visit at a depth of approx. 60 feet. It can be found about 1 mile from the northwest part of the island. The best way to reach the Antilla, is by boat with an experienced captain who knows the diving spot.

Walking and observing the beautiful scenery of the beaches is one of the best things that can be done on the island. There are also lots of other activities in Aruba. You could go fishing with your friends and family. Or you could explore marine life that you’ve never seen before. Snorkeling is a great option here, and perfect for those who love extreme sports and adventures. This place is an ideal chill-out destination with many activities that are bound to make you forget your busy life.

With all the things that you can see and experience in Aruba, you might feel a bit overwhelmed, especially when it’s your first time at this place. There are loads of things to consider for first time visitors. The first thing to do is to learn and acquire information about Aruba. Aruba is a part of Lesser Antilles which are most visited specifically by Americans, Venezuelans and others from around the globe. Besides its world-class, beautiful beaches Aruba also sports great restaurants and shopping malls.

Aruba is located 15 miles from the coast of Venezuela. If you are from Miami, you can take a 2 hour flight to this paradise. It is easier and more convenient to travel to Aruba thanks to its popularity. If you are from the US, there are lots of direct flights to Aruba which makes travel planning a breeze. The size of the island is just 20 by 6 miles. Still, there are loads of wonderful spots to explore. It’s landscape looks almost like that of Curacao. On this island, you can find Yamanota Hill which is situated near San Nicolas and you can easily visit it using your car. It is the highest point on this island and gives you a great view.

The second thing to do is to find out the best places to visit. This is quite easy. Aruba is surrounded by the best hotels and restaurants. All year long, promo teams reach out flyers, magazines and new bulletins full of useful information about the newest clubs, hottest parties and events. For most scuba divers, scuba diving in Aruba is all about exploring the wrecks. There are lots of wrecks to choose from. You can be sure that you will get almost the same experiences and satisfaction on each wreck diving spot. This because of the beauty of marine life that will await you there.

Another thing to do is to look for a very reliable and reputable diving guide. There are approximately 21 or more scuba diving spots you can go to. If you don’t have enough knowledge or relevant information about the diving spots, you have to consider hiring a diving guide who is willing to guide you during dive. You can find a guide simply by going online, enter your favorite search engine and search for “Aruba dive instructor” or “Aruba PADI”. Most diving schools are more than happy to assist you. Simple as that. Also nice to know, most hotels offers free Wi-Fi internet. If not, Setarnet supplies hotspot Wi-Fi cards.

Then you have to decide if you will rent diving gear or use your own. If you are not comfortable using rental equipment, you can use your own. Just leave the cylinder and weight belt at home. These are way too heavy to carry around. Imagine dropping off your weight belt at the in check counter of the airport. Just remember, diving equipment is offered for rent on the island. Rental prices are competitive and not that expensive.

The last thing to keep in mind, which also happens to be the most important, is to follow safety diving procedures. Even if you are a pro scuba diver, you have to put safety before thrill. Please do not forget this advice. Many scuba divers have already been astonished by the one-of-a-kind experience they had in Aruba. We hope to welcome you, and give you a memory that you will treasure forever.
