Space Travel: Is The Price Tag Worth It To Be An Astronaut?

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Going to space isn’t something that only astronauts get to do. Everyday people, like you and me, could go into space, if they have enough money that is. For a whopping $35 million dollars, you can get a ride into space. Here’s what comes with this out of this world travel experience.

Preparation and Voyage

Travelers board the Russian Soyuz spacecraft after they have gone through extensive training throughout the period of about a year. This training includes going through many different simulations. They will have to learn things like how to eat in zero gravity and what to do if something goes wrong while they are in space. The Soyuz will travel to the International Space Station and those on board will get to go on a space walk and even conduct a few experiments. They will also get to see the earth from a distance that only a few people have seen before.

Why Would Anyone Pay For This?

With a $35 million dollar price tag it’s hard to believe that anyone would actually pay for something like this. However, for those billionaires that love all things lunar related or for those entrepreneurs that will do whatever it takes to raise a buck or two (or $35 million) to make it close to the moon, this really is an experience that only a few have been lucky enough to partake in. In fact, less than 50 people have ever seen the moon up close. For those that seem to have everything and have some money to spend, this may just be what they are looking for.

Most people will never be able to afford an experience like this. In fact, only about 8 people have become “space tourists” since this program began in 2001. However, there are opportunities to at least get up close with a few space shuttles and rockets. Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral has quite a few rockets on display, as well as numerous memorabilia from previous space missions. Admission to the center is only around $50 for adults, which fits a lot more household budgets than actually flying into space. Curious travelers, with more money to spend, can pay about $5,000 to visit the International Space School, view an actual launch and experience a press conference with the cosmonauts. This also includes accommodations for 5 days and a return flight to Moscow.
