Milan, the capital of Lombardy region, has a population of 1.3 million people. It is the biggest industrial city of Italy with many different industrial sectors. It is a magnetic point for designers, artists, photographers and models. Milan has an ancient city center with high and interesting buildings and palazzos, which is why so many people from all over the world want to see the city of glamour. There are many things to see and do in Milan and you will surely enjoy a lot in this city.

Places to Visit

The treasures of Milan are mainly found in its center. The awe inspiring Duomo is one of the world’s largest churches. The Pinacoteca di Brera, displaying some of the best Renaissance works, should not be missed as well. A visit to Milan would not be complete without visiting Leonardo da Vinci’s Last Supper. This fresco draws thousands of visitors every year and it is better to book your tickets in advance in order to avoid disappointment.

Nightlife & Entertainment

Milan has some of the best clubs in Italy, which offer entertainment until dawn. You can listen to the classical opera at Italy’s premier opera house, Teatro alla Scala or hear great orchestral works at the Auditorium di Milano. Art students and young locals can enjoy the latest music and cocktails in the university area of Brera. For fine live jazz in quirky surroundings, you should head to the legendary Le Scimme in the Navigli, which has its own bar-boat moored in the canal. In addition, you can dance the night away with celebrities in Garibaldi’s long-standing nightclubs.

Shopping in Milan

Milan offers one of the greatest shopping experiences in Europe ranking with Paris and London in the field of fashion. There are many top fashion houses on the Via Monte Napoleone while in the Piazza Duomo is the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, said to be the oldest shopping mall in the world. The quality of Italy’s hand crafted items can not be argued. Ceramics, leather goods and jewellery make excellent gifts or holiday mementoes.

Food & Fun

There is no so-called pub culture in Italy, so instead of drinking in the evening, many people go out for a meal and a glass of wine. The warm mellow evenings encourage al fresco eating and many restaurants provide this facility. Traditional cooking in Milan is a long slow process using a low heat. Risotto, that is well-known food, is one of the greatest dishes to come from Lombardy’s kitchens. Veal is the favorite meat and turkey is also popular. The local Grumello wine, a light red, is very pleasant.
