California Community Colleges Choose Career Coach for Statewide Career Exploration Portal

California Community Colleges selects Emsi’s Career Coach for statewide Self-Assessment and Career Exploration portal  

Community college students across California will soon have access to online self-assessment and career exploration resources as part of a statewide Student Services and Degree Planning portal being developed by the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Education Planning Initiative (EPI).

The California Community Colleges Technology Center, charged with implementing EPI, selected Emsi’s Career Coach platform for the Self-Assessment and Career Exploration application within the student services portal. The portal is designed to give students anywhere/anytime access to information and resources—such as career assessment, degree planning, tutoring and local campus services—sequenced to prompt them along the path based on their specific needs.

“Helping students identify their career interests is the first–and foundational–aspect of the portal,” noted David Shippen, Director of Statewide Programs, Student Services, and Educational Planning for the California Community Colleges Technology Center. “We’re pleased to be working with Emsi and the Career Coach product team to build a unique solution for the California Community Colleges that will support our students as they seek achieve their educational goals.”

Emsi makes labor market data useful for student success through software programs like Career Coach, allowing students size up the potential job market based on a given degree program.

The program will track how each student navigates through Career Coach and the portal through the student’s system ID number. Analytics collected from Career Coach helps the system understand how students are using the tool and informs counselors about each student’s career interests.
