I’ve noticed that there are several articles on Before It’s News concerning an Army staff study paper “From PSYOP to MindWar” which I co-authored with Colonel Paul Vallely in 1980. Some of these are a bit on the paranoid side, for which I may be to blame for not taking pains to be more precise when writing it. On the other hand, it was originally intended as an internal Army “thinking paper”, and we assumed thar readers would have the appropriate background and perspective not to misinterpret it. Anyway, it got out to the public and has been spooking people for the last 23 years!
Last year I decided to revisit, update, and expand the paper into something both more comprehensive and more detailed. As I proceeded, it got much more of both where the Army’s Psychological Operations (PSYOP) Branch is concerned. The practical application aspects also very quickly spilled over into the two other Special Operations branches: Special Forces and Civil Affairs. Then the advanced concepts being introduced made the present profile of all three branches inadequate, so they were reconceptualized. Finally a combined strategic and tactical matrix for their employment in a MW campaign was developed. The result, just completed this month, is the book MindWar.
While I originally intended this book again for intra-Army/intra-government circulation, it seemed increasingly appropriate that it be publicly available as well. Many of its principles and practices, if put into effect, could have widespread consequences. In the United States the people are sovereign, and should have the opportunity and option to consider and evaluate it. So it’s now available on Amazon; just search for the title. MindWar (MW) is based on two premises: (1) that traditional war (physical war or “PW) has in the 21st century become prohibitively deadly, expensive, and ineffective; and (2) that the desire and compulsion for war is endemic to humanity. Thus the sort of peacemaking efforts to which we are accustomed are at best only temporary stopgaps. MW is a system to supersede PW with a much stronger, more potent, and more precise machine of war: one which addresses the thought-processes of humans both individually and collectively. The bodies and lands of humans are no longer targets; the enemy to be attacked is the conceptual discord itself. Thus MW finally puts an end to the misery and destruction of PW by relegating it to the scrap-heap of human evolutionary history.
Sound like rather a big bite? Well, yes, but then the stakes are very high. What impact MindWar‘s going to have as it flows through official and individual brains remains to be seen, but I decided to give it my best shot. I hope you decide that it was worth it. At the very least perhaps it will start people thinking more along this line than shooting and blowing up one another.

To presume war to be a “desire and compulsion” “endemic to humanity” demonstrates not only an arrogance of intellect and analysis which ipso facto is clearly absent, but also, usefully, gives any potential reader all the information they need to be able to conclude that nothing following on from such a mistaken and perverted premise could offer anything of use or insight for any normally functioning human.
