US Turns Geneva II Talks Into Fiasco

The US doomed the American people and any chance for peace in the Middle East when it forced the UN to withdraw its invitation to Iran while allowing Saudi Arabia to participate in the Geneva II Conference.  Secretary of State John Kerry then added further insult to injury when he demanded, as a precondition to any proposed resolution to the conflict, that Assad be excluded from any transitional government.

It is foolishness, if you are truly interested in peace, to obstruct any way forward that will bring about an immediate cease fire that will lead to more substanitive and defining talks, but the US knows it has no effective control over either Saudi Arabia, al Nusra or other al Qaeda-affiliated groups intervening in Syria and so could never actually deliver on a interim peace proposal that would require these opposition forces to make any meaningful concessions. This is why all the demands have only been placed only on the Syrian government as al Qaeda continues with its sectarian massacres.    

The US is subject to the inertia being created by a situation that is increasingly out of the US’s ability to influence as it acts as if this inertia is controllable and intentional.  It is becoming increasingly clear that US demands are merely a means for it to obscure the fact that it has lost control of the situation and so may be required to have to defer to the Saudi interests of continuing to promote sectarian violence.  That the opposition groups are now fighting war between themselves and killing each other by the hundreds shows the US is holding on to the tail of a tiger that it cannot now let go of without being eaten alive while ridiculously trying to convince everyone into believing it is controlling a domesticated feline.  The US would strongly benefit from some display that would show it has the ability to influence what has been downward spiraling events committed by extremists.  It seems that since Assad has been so effective at killing jihadists, the U.S. is increasingly interested in maintaining this war for as long as possible.

That the US would make such demands upon Syria and force the UN into embarrassingly withdrawing its initial invitation to Iran while the US seeks to negotiate with Iran over its peaceful nuclear energy program clearly demonstrates that it is the American people who have forced US politicians into negotiating with Iran as opposed to the US government being a partner in good-faith negotiations.  If I were Assad I would agree to whatever the U.S. demands with the stipulation that the agreement begin with an immediate cease-fire and exit of Saudi forces of which the US could never deliver.  Such a situation would clearly show why Iran was needed as a part of any negotiation. Without Iran being involved the U.S. will ensure this conflict drags on in perpetuity. 

It is revealing that the UN would extend to Iran an invitation without first consulting the US.  This is because it is so obvious to the entire world that Iranian input is needed to ensure regional stability and to act as a counterweight to Saudi ambitions.  That Ban Ki-moon, as the leader of what is supposed to be a supra-national organization, could be ordered around while Saudi Arabia and the US flaunt international law and support foreign aggression and intervention in Syria, ought to lead to either the invitation being re-extended to Iran or to Ban Ki-moon’s resignation as it is clear the UN is not acting as a independent entity concerned with the acknowledgement and enforcement and of international law, nor concerned with the sovereignty of its member states.  In behaving in such a manner, the UN has clearly demonstrated it is the puppet of the US and EU. 

While Russia and China support the inclusion of Iran in peace negotiations, the UN still bends to the demands of the US government even as the US government violates the UN charter and subsequent international agreements such as the Non-Proliferation Treaty while also subverting international bodies such as the IAEA.  That Ban Ki-moon would allow his judgment and discretion to be undermined brings into question his ability to be a mediating influence as opposed to the US’s errand boy. 

It seems whatever pressure the American people have placed upon the US government and its unitary executive to desist in any aggressive action against Syria, the US Senate and certain forces within the White House have sought to undermine and derail Syrian peace even after senators’ offices were bombarded with phone calls for the US government to refrain from military involvement.

Given American citizens’ propensity for believing government lies, and given the proven US lies about the deployment of chemical weapons by Syrian forces in a false flag operation conducted by jihadist forces, it is a surprise that the American people no longer trusted the government but instead relied on recent evidence that clearly demonstrated these staged attacks were perpetrated by anti-Assad forces in an attempt to garner a U.S. intervention.  The American people were not going to allow AIPAC-controlled senators nor the White House to use this situation to authorize another war as it seems the American people are beginning to understand what is going on and who benefits from their government’s Middle East interventions.   

Instead of offering anything meaningful to the Syrian government the U.S. used the choas as an opportunity to force Assad to surrender his chemical weapons stockpiles which Assad then wisely traded for advanced Russian surface-to-air defensive missles systems, a trade that would make both U.S. or Israeli intervention much more difficult and expensive.  

What the Geneva II talks have clearly demonstrated and stalemated into is an understanding that all parties can agree that all foreign influence needs to be withdrawn, but the problem is that the first foreign forces introduced into Syria were Saudi-controlled Wahhabi Takfiri jihadists whom Saudi Arabia insists be the last to leave even as the US now admits that it finds Assad to be what it describes as the lesser of two evils between the Syrian governemnt and an al Qaeda/al Nusra axis.   

The absurdity of the US position is that it feels it should dictate participants, terms and conditions while its favored group, the Syrian National Coalition, which was supposed to represent the Syrian peoples’ opposition to Assad, has been driven out and destroyed by jihadist groups the US had supported in hopes of making them the coalition’s allies.  Instead of the US being shamed into silence due to the fiasco it has created as the Syrian National Coalition sits at the negotiating table now representing nobody, Secretary John Kerry is as loud and obnoxious as ever as he hurls threats at an amused Iran while increasingly looking like an impotent buffoon. Putin had stated the U.S. looks like a monkey playing with a hand grenade. It seems there is no limit to the stupidity the US is willing to inflict upon itself at the expense of the Syrian people, but such stupidity may end up costing the U.S. government its last remain shreds of legitimacy with the global community as the world seeks to find another way forward without the U.N. acting as a U.S. puppet.
