What a ridiculous exaggeration in the headline! While this is a powerful storm, it fits easily into the existing scientific category of hurricanes as a Category 5 hurricane. I should also point out that measuring hurricane strength is a relatively young endeavor, as it was impossible to measure size before the satellite era or get many accurate measurements before modern instrumentation and hurricane hunter flights. I just hate the sensationalist tone of these stories, because it’s no better than reading a supermarket rag. I remember storms wiping out Bangladesh, killing hundreds of thousands–but who was around to measure their wind speeds?

.Typhoon Haiyan is far from being the strongest. Typhoon Tip was a lot stronger and bigger in 1979.That was back when all the Sheeptards were claiming global cooling would bring about an ice age by 2000.
How would you like being stuck in an F-4 tornado for 72+ hours, that’s what the people in the heart of this storm face. Plus the fact that it probably also drops numerous tornado’s as it churns along. I stuck it out in the worst of hurricane Wilma in the Yucatan 2005, that wasn’t fun and that doesn’t hold a candle to this one. Hope this one stays the Fukuway-from-shima.
