Viral Video Shows U.S. Wealth Inequality
In only four days, a video on Mashable that began going viral Friday showing the extent of United States inequality, has over 486 thousand “Likes” and continues to climb on YouTube. The video also reflects why the United States has one of the highest worst human rights violation levels in the world.
Charlie Rose writes for Mashable, “The issue of wealth inequality across the United States is well known, but this video shows you the extent of that imbalance in dramatic and graphic fashion.”
The video also is demonstrates what drives both Republicans and Democrats to mobilize through the Occupy movement.
Equality is the basis of the 30 Articles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in that all people are equal. This is emphasized in Articles 1 and 2:
Article 1. All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood.
Article 2. Everyone is entitled to all the rights and freedoms set forth in this Declaration, without distinction of any kind, such as race, colour, sex, language, religion, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status. Furthermore, no distinction shall be made on the basis of the political, jurisdictional or international status of the country or territory to which a person belongs, whether it be independent, trust, non-self-governing or under any other limitation of sovereignty.
The video, that began going viral on Friday and whose traffic continues to climb on YouTube, reflects the facts as seen from many different sources, according to Rose.
“We present it without comment, letting you, our readers, be the judge,” Rose states.

people who vote Republican support the policies that created this.
This video seems very informative but it doesn’t provide a units measurement on the y axis. Are we looking at the difference of $10,000 and $100,000? Or is it $10,000 and $10 Billion?
Are we talking net worth, or income? It flashes some income levels, but then says it is net worth. The two are very different.
Nonetheless, it does point out a divergence. Part of this can be attributed to a new cash society occurring in the country where people don’t claim income, claim zero assets, and yet partake in a portfolio of government benefits. Even pushing that issue aside, which imho is bigger than we all realize, there appears to be a bigger problem.
There is a slow drain of wealth occurring from most levels of society. Most seem to want to blame the rich. Perhaps there is some truth to that when looking at some of the athletes, hollywood, and executive compensation packages. But is it possible we are looking under the wrong shell.
Instead of blaming the rich because the rest of us don’t have as much as we’d like, perhaps we have to ask ourselves what may be causing us to be losing our wealth.
1) Are we as individuals financially educated? No.
2) Do we teach ourselves how to be financially disciplined? No, we are bombarded by ads and peer pressure to spend, spend, spend baby. You can’t achieve wealth if you don’t save. Simple, yet somehow the point is avoided in most conversations.
3) Is it cool to live on the edge, with credit cards and a fancy car, or is it cool to save money and drive a basic car? The obvious answer says too much abour our value system.
4) Is our labor force competitive with those found in other countries? No, but it is getting closer. If you say yes, then why did so many corporations have to move to stay in business? If you say no, then why did we support the free trade agreements, and MFN status with China to open up our labor force to direct competition?
5) How many Americans are truly willing to work a hard days work? This can only be answered by each of us individually.
There’s definitely a discrepancy here. But it’s more about the losses to the middle class, then it is the gains to the 1%ers.
“War blur”…if you had a basic understanding of economics and finance, you’d realize how ridiculous your comment is. Unfortunately, most people think like you, so we continue to dig the hole deeper for ourselves. We can’t possibly blame our job of voting in politicians, so let’s just blame the Republicans. Your Prez and Senate have not come up with a budget in over three years. The only jobs that are being created are the lowest paying, our liabilities are increasing by 1 trillion dollars a month, and 47% of the people are on some form of government assistance. It’s a nice performance wouldn’t you say?
Is this the type of situation conservatives would say is pushing a communism agenda, or worse – Agenda 21?
