AOC Shrugs Off Her Past Defund The Police Comments

Is this a good indicator that she’s going to try running for president?

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez shrugs off past ‘defund the police’ comments, joking ‘Woke 1 was crazy’

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., dismissed her and other socialist politicians’ past extreme controversial comments on ABC’s “This Week” Sunday, joking that the “Woke 1” era was “crazy.”

Host Jon Karl asked Ocasio-Cortez to comment on Wisconsin gubernatorial candidate Francesca Hong and her controversial comments, such as calling for Thanksgiving to be canceled or for prisons to be abolished. Hong has sought to backtrack on some of her past views as she seeks the Democratic nomination in her state.

“I have a local city councilman that has this saying, ‘Woke 1 was crazy,’” Ocasio-Cortez said laughing, adding, “And I think that what’s important is that we have to assess what a candidate is saying now.”

“Saying now”, eh? Everything in the past was just yammering?

Karl followed by asking if there was a point when the socialist movement went “too far,” remarking that Ocasio-Cortez had previously supported defunding the police as well. Ocasio-Cortez clarified that most of these comments were made during the height of the COVID shutdowns with people more open to change.

“And I think that the doors were really open in trying to entertain any and every policy that was going to get us to a better place. And I actually think that the discussions that were had in that time were quite fruitful,” Ocasio-Cortez said.

She added, “I think that when we talk about crime today, it’s fundamentally different than the way that we talked about crime in bringing crime down, right? And I think that we all share the goals of having as low a crime rate as possible. I think that during lockdown, of course, rhetoric in that time is not rhetoric that we would use today. And I’m grateful that these candidates have the opportunity to present who they are to their electorate, and what they’re campaigning on in this moment.”

Well, the national DSA wants the police defunded. Gone. No more police. They also do not support AOC because she’s not sufficiently anti-Israel. She did say in response to NYC mayor Bill De Blasio asking for a $1 billion reduction for the NYPD: “Defunding police means defunding police. It does not mean budget tricks or funny math. It does not mean moving school police officers from the NYPD budget to the Department of Education’s budget so the exact same police remain in schools.” That seems rather specific.

When Obama criticized her and the other defund Democrats she replied “The whole point of protesting is to make people uncomfortable.” And you still have this on her own website

Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is among the proponents of the call to defund the police, and a recent post on her Instagram story on the subject quickly went viral, after it was screenshotted and shared by Twitter user Ashley Quan. Asked, “What does an America with defunded police look like to you?” Ocasio-Cortez responded, “It looks like a suburb.”

Most of those suburbs are run by Republicans, have a mixed political structure, or are DINOs (Democrats in name only). Little d Democrats, who aren’t nutbags. And are full of people who are not leftist, violent, criminal wankers, so, they do not need as many police. But, anyhow, does this mean she’s running for president? The defund movement doesn’t work as well on a national stage. I guess we’ll have to see when it comes to other political beliefs of hers she might change.
