The detainee in the alleged murder of Paula, a 27-year-old young woman 27, murdered in an apartment on Calle Perines in Santander, has exercised his right to silence during questioning by the National Police, according to the media outlet, Diario Montañes. 

The crime is being investigated as a possible case of gender-based violence after the confession of the detainee at the scene of the crime.   It is expected that the accused, a 39-year-old man and ex-partner of the victim, will appear in court in the coming hours, on Monday, August 3, according to police sources.

The murder of Paula

The 39-year-old man, who last Friday confessed to the crime against the 27-year-old woman, with  whom he has a young son, has remained in detention at the National Police headquarters in Cantabria.

The accused and the dead woman, daughter of the ex-Director General of Culture in the government of Cantabria, Joaquin Solanas- were not the subject of previous reports, therefore, her situation was not contemplated in the VioGen system, which centralizes and coordinates the protection of victims of gender-based violence.

The free telephone service of the National Police, 091, received a call at 12:30 on Friday, and arriving at the scene, once inside the residence, the officers found a woman lying on the floor with bloody wounds, possibly caused by a bladed weapon. Although the urgent presence of ambulance services was requested, they could only confirm the death of the victim.

At the scene, the officers detained the partner of the dead woman, who at that moment confessed to the crime and was transported to the detention facility of the National Police headquarters. In addition, the protocol for cases of gender-based violence was activated.
