Wrist Slap for Transsexual Who Plotted to Kill Scott Bessent

If you are going to get arrested for conspiring to assassinate a top Republican official, be sure to get a judge appointed by a Democrat.

Daily Signal reports on the would-be assassin of Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent:

Judge Rudolph Contreras, an appointee of President Barack Obama, sentenced 24-year-old Ryan Michael English to 73 months in prison, far short of the 121 months prosecutors sought.

Assuming you get a liberal judge, it may help to be a member of a favored identity group.

English, who identifies as transgender and uses female pronouns in his filings, pleaded guilty in March to carrying a firearm, dangerous weapon, explosive, or incendiary device on the grounds of the U.S. Capitol.

English calls himself “Raleigh Jane English.” Apparently Bessent’s sensible opposition to increasing minimum wage — which would drive up both inflation and unemployment — was the major motivating factor.

Other factors include the ludicrous narrative that anyone right of center is a National Socialist who oppresses transsexuals. English had a note in his pocket that read in part:

“This is terrible but I cant do nothing while nazis kill my sisters.”

By “sisters,” he presumably means other guys who pretend to be women.

Another factor is the left’s sick deification of a confessed murderer:

English also said his violent plans were in part inspired by Luigi Mangione, the 28-year-old man who confessed to killing UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in December 2024.

Despite confessing, English has a defense; he is a victim. According to a motion filed by his lawyer,

“Ms. English is a young transexual woman who has experienced trauma and suffering from the day she was born.”

The poor fellow was “not able to be herself because of her home environment and her parents’ religious beliefs” and was also a victim of the Trump administration’s “anti-transgender agenda” — an apparent reference to Trump’s opposition to men intruding into women’s sports and the sexual surgical mutilation of children.

At least the put-upon Mr. English can take solace that his attempt to commit murder and arson has earned him a place in the Transsexual Violence Hall of Horrors.
