Look, the issue is not guns, but there are some guns that a family does not need in the home, and a hunter will never be able to use in the field, semi auto assault rifles are one such firearm. These weapons belong in the military, not at home with junior.
Another problem is video games, they are way too violent, way to realistic and they create a sense that one is not really killing anyone or blowing up anything because one can just hit the replay button and they all come back to life again, well, in real life they don’t come back again. This is the real problem – these programmers and game companies should be held completely accountable. This is a fruit they have created. That kid that did that horrible act was 20 years old, do you think he ever played Black Ops – Call of Duty? Do you think he had that video game at home? Do you think he played it with his brother and friends? I almost bet he did. These games need to be banned and made illegal to own. They need a special designation that prevents them from ever being imported and exported – they need a government bounty put on them and turned in for cash.

I believe the answer is to facilitate and require responsible gun owership. In the Conn school shootings, there was a deranged young man iwth an assault weapon causing the death and destruction while there were police armed with the same weapon coming to “Fix” the problem. The difference is the intent of the people.
Its not the ‘instrumentality’ its the ‘mentality’ that has to be changed to create a long term fix.
In the mean time, if gun owners would keep their weapons in their safe or locked up and unaccessible to the Lanzas of the world, we would have less of these incidents. I own guns, they are kept in a safe or on my person.
