No, I am not even kidding. Time Warner CEO Jeff Bewkes told Business Insider’s Henry Blodget on Tuesday that the “real threat” to the First Amendment did not come from President-elect Donald Trump during the campaign, but rather from the Democratic Party. (H/T – Business Insider)
He explained that the Democrats have been trying to restrict the First Amendment to their own media for a while now by trying to pass it off as “campaign finance reform.”
“The press tends to miss that because they tend to lean that way, and therefore they were supporting what they were viewing — I think overly charitably — as something in cleaning up money in politics when in fact what it would do is restrain multiple voices.” -Bewkes
It makes a lot of sense when you think about it. Citizens United may be responsible for Super PACs, which are abused, but they also give Labor Unions and corporations the right to voice their political opinions for the good of their industry and members.
So thank you, CEO of Time Warner Jeff Bewkes, for sticking up for Donald Trump and against the Democrats who are trying to silence the Free Press (now they are claiming anyone who disagrees with them is “Fake News”).
