I got sober in Alcoholics Anonymous when I was 25 years old on February 9th,1985 and got sober by going to 2 or 3 AA meetings a day and by going out to restaurants for AA fellowship at night, and by reading my AA Big Book each night until I fell asleep, by working the 12 step program, praying to God and trying my life and will over to him. I was determined and serious about staying sober. In addition to doing the meetings, reading, 12 Step spiritual work and praying I found having fun in sobriety was a great way to stay sober as when you have fun sober and enjoy yourself you want to stay sober. Therefore in the mid 1980s when I got sober I went to 12 Step Conventions in Palm Springs and Santa Barbara and at AA Conventions. AAs dance, and dress up tho to AA banquets with a great AA speaker and they socialize and lay on rafts in and around the AA Convention hotel pools laughing and having sober fun. I enjoyed this AA socializing that made sobriety fun and found it enjoyable to buy cute vacation clothes, a bathing suit and formal outfit and that was a big part of how I stayed sober. I also went to Dances that Cri Help had and their Cri Help B B Q with bands and the AA Musicians Picnic with many bands. Therefore doing fun AA socializing things became a lot of what my sobriety was based upon as you learn to have fun without drinking when was no longer fun to me anyway, going to weekend AA speaker meetings, AA dances, picnics, B B Qs, and to 12 step Conventions is part of the AA footwork and actions people in AA take and do these things to enjoy a spiritual 12 step life. The 12 steps are a spiritual program for living, and having fun in sobriety gave me a very strong desire to stay sober as I found out it’s more fun than drinking and taking part in 12 step activity’s is filling up your glass so it’s not half empty. In 2005 after I lost weight on a diet and bought new stylish casual clothes I decided I should get into AA action and go to AA Conventions, and to AA speaker meetings. Also in 2005 my daughters were older 10 and 14, and I’d stayed home 14 years even when they were at their Dads on Saturday night as I had nothing casual even to wear out at night, so after I lost weight I bought designer jeans cute jackets and sweaters and evening outfits I thought I am going to the AA Convention in Burbank and to the one that was local at the Hyatt in Westlake Village that they had every fall where I’d gone many times as that’s what AAs do and are supposed to do, to socialize, to go to AA Marathon meeting, the banquet speaker meeting and AA dance. Therefore in 2005 when I lost weight, bought new clothes to wear out at night, and my kids were older I did a lot of what I did when I got sober in the 1980’s. I also went to an AA speaker meeting in Malibu on the weekends that’s know for having great AA speakers and knew I’d see old friends in AA I knew in the 1980s and carloads of AAs car pooled to the Malibu meeting who were from Westlake Village and the Thousand Oaks AA meetings as that’s what AAs do for their sobriety and to have fun socializing. I am sober now over 40 years and work other 12 step programs and that’s the Aka Non 12 step program where you learn to detach with love, to be light and polite and surfacy with dysfunctional types such as drinkers and people you don’t who are not spiritual honest types. I also work a Debtors Antonymous 12 Step program which teaches you to not charge, to pay minimum payments and no more, to keep cash for bills to not have stress and so you won’t charge, to only have secured debt, such ax against a property or car, to spend each month off the top money on fun and spiritual growth, such as money on a spiritual book or tape, and money on a movie for fun. I started working my Alanon and Debtors Antonymous programs in 1997 1998 a long with my AA program and all my 12 step programs way of life worked great for me. In 2005 I felt happy joyous and free in new stylish clothes after loosing weight going to Malibu meetings, to conventions etc. I also was invited out to a Comedy Show at a club by people I sold a house to as the realtor I was.
