Letter: 40 Yrs In Solitary Slave Camp, Anal Cavity Searched 6X Daily, Falsely Imprisoned

“Teenie believes me,” says one of the Angola Three survivors, speaking on behalf of the last of the three, imprisoned in Louisiana’s “slave camp” known as Angola for four long decades in solitary confinement as a falsely imprisoned person for a murder neither he nor the other two men committed.

Robert H. King has published the following letter and asked for it to b shared, with support of Amnesty.

Here’s his letter in full:

[Teenie] believes that the Angola 3 had nothing to do with her husband’s murder. She believes that Albert Woodfox, Herman Wallace and I suffered years of cruel solitary confinement as innocent men.

I am free after 29 years of a nightmare.

Herman died of cancer just three days after the state finally set him free. 

Albert now bears all of the state’s cruelty alone, held in solitary confinement for four long decades. 

Albert, Herman and I believe that we were put in solitary confinement for our activism while behind bars – that isolation was used to silence our calls for justice. But while I may be free of Angola, Angola will never be free of me. 

I will not be silent until Albert Woodfox is free. Please, join me and Amnesty in demanding immediate freedom for the last Angola 3 prisoner, Albert Woodfox. 

A little more than a year ago a federal judge overturned Albert’s conviction. It was the third time – yes, the third time – his conviction was overturned. 

But the state filed an appeal. So today Albert is still in a tiny cell, denied justice and meaningful human contact every day. 

Together we have suffered more than 100 years in the hole, more than almost any other prisoners in American history.
