Tasmanian wolf ancestors and recent relatives
Should have seen one this coming.
Recent housekeeping and review of the mammal subset of the LRT moved some marsupial predators around (Fig 1).

Here
recent Australian Tasmanian wolf, Thylacinus, now nests with Sarcophilus, the Tasmanian devil and the traditional pangolin relative (but not in the LRT), Ernanodon, all derived from the much smaller, Dasyurus, the Australian quoll.
Again, phylogenetic miniaturization at the genesis of new clades.
