Chicago White Sox’s top 10 prospect has an impressive debut in blowout of the Red Sox
The Chicago White Sox have finally ended their eight-game losing streak after they blew out the Boston Red Sox 11-1 in the opening game of the series on Friday night.
The White Sox needed a game like this after getting outscored 42-16 during their losing streak. The White Sox scoring eleven runs in this game marks a season-high and will hopefully lead them out of the gutter.
Fans were in for a treat last night as one of the White Sox’s top prospects made his Major League Debut after getting the call to come to the show after a great showing down at Triple-A Charlotte.
Chicago White Sox’s No. 8 prospect shines in his debut
Chase Meidroth, the White Sox’s No. 8 overall prospect in the organization, debuted last night for the Sox after he got off to a hot start down at Charlotte, where he had an OPS of 1.050 in his first nine games at Triple-A.
The 23-year-old Meidroth was one of the players the White Sox got in return in the deal that sent left-handed pitcher Garrett Crochet to the Boston Red Sox in exchange for Meidroth, catcher Kyle Teel, outfielder Braden Montgomery, and right-handed pitcher Wikelmann González.
Meidroth was spectacular in his debut, showing why he’s an underrated prospect and why he will be a future top-of-the-order piece and on-base guy for the White Sox.
Manager Will Venable gave Meidroth the honor of batting seventh in the order, where he went 1-1 (four plate appearances overall) picking up his first major league hit in the bottom of the fourth inning on a fastball that Red Sox left-hander Sean Newcomb left out over the plate. Meidroth also scored twice.

The most impressive aspect of Meidroth’s debut was the fact he walked three times, which was the first time a player had a hit and three walks in a game since Montreal Expos outfielder and Hall of Famer Larry Walker did it on August 16, 1989.

The road ahead for Meidroth
Meidroth played second base in his debut, and Venable could slide him in there and give him the bulk of the reps at second, as that’s his primary position and his best position.
Now that he’s here, Meidroth will get a lot of runway to show why he was one of the four players the Sox brought over to help their rebuild.
Meidroth is the first of those prospects to debut and the second top-ten prospect to debut for the Sox, the other being right-handed pitcher Jairo Iriarte.
His debut could mark the opening of the floodgates and signal the White Sox’s willingness to start calling up their prospects and seeing who will give them the best chances at building a new ballclub.
