Chicago Bears: NFL insider crushes hopes of last minute deal to keep team in Illinois
The Chicago Bears stadium news cycle has been one of the most attention-grabbing story lines in the NFL this off-season. For months, fans and former players have urged the state of Illinois to pass the necessary legislation to keep the Bears in the city of Chicago, or at the very least in the state itself.
It has not happened, and probably never will.
Instead, the Bears organization recently announced its plans to move forward with a new stadium in Hammond, Indiana, which is located about 20 minutes outside of Chicago. And while fans may be hoping for a last-second law from Illinois, one NFL insider says that is not going to happen.
Adam Schefter says the Chicago Bears moving to Indiana is a done deal
There was some hope among Bears fans that the organization announcing its intentions to move to Indiana would provoke the Illinois legislature into getting the laws passed that the team wants passed. In other words, they believed it was a bluff.
It was not, at least according to Adam Schefter:

“It is not a bluff. There is more work to do, but barring anything very strange, it’s a done deal,” Schefter said on the Pat McAfee Show last week.
It is unclear, exactly, what those “very strange” things could be. One would have to assume it would be something like the land in Hammond suddenly being unable to be built upon. The fact of the matter, though, is that the state of Illinois has made it clear that the Bears organization will not receive the tax breaks they want in order to keep the team in Chicago.
