Chicago Bears predicted to land freakish 6-foot-6 pass rusher

The Chicago Bears had some very key needs heading into the offseason, and one of the most glaring was their pass rush.

Montez Sweat is really the only reliable pass rusher on the team right now. Dayo Odeyingbo had just one sack in eight games before tearing his Achilles last season, and Austin Booker posted 4.5 sacks in 10 contests.

Odeyingbo could bounce back, and Booker surely has potential, but the Bears have very limited depth on the edge, and after managing just 35 sacks in 2025, you would have thought they would have been more aggressive in finding help this spring.

Instead, Chicago has not added a single edge rusher in spite of having ample opportunities to do so, and the Bears once again find themselves with a major question mark at the position heading into 2026.

Surely, Chicago will bring in a pass rusher at some point, and Bleacher Report’s Brent Sobleski feels it could happen in the first round of next year’s NFL Draft. In his newest 2027 mock, Sobleski has the Bears selecting Arkansas Razorback star Quincy Rhodes Jr. with the 15th overall pick.

Rhodes is an athletic freak with tremendous size and is more of a defensive end than a true edge, but he would absolutely be a great fit for Chicago.

“Arkansas’ Quincy Rhodes Jr. emerged as a second-team All-SEC performer last season after posting 15.5 tackles for loss and eight sacks. The 6’6″, 277-pound prospect already displays NFL-caliber power to set the edge and threaten offensive tackles with a bull-rush. He’s not the type of pass-rusher to fly off the edge, bend the corner and flatten toward the quarterback. However, his pass-rush plan showed some promise last season and should continue to expand this fall,” Sobleski wrote.

Rhodes actually probably would have been a Day 2 pick had he declared for the 2026 NFL Draft, but he elected to return to school for another year to further bolster his status, which was probably the correct move.

The 21-year-old arrived at Arkansas in 2023 and barely received any playing time his first couple of seasons before breaking out this past year, establishing himself as one of the most underrated defensive players in the SEC.

Rhodes is great both against the run and as a pass rusher, and a double-digit sack campaign is well within reach for him next fall.

Unless Booker has a monster season for the Bears (which is a possibility), Chicago may very well pursue an edge rusher on Day 1 of the draft next April, and Rhodes could be on its board.
