Chicago White Sox most obvious All-Star candidate revealed in latest MLB power rankings
Over the last several years, the Chicago White Sox have not had very many players worthy of being an MLB All-Star. Last season, then-rookie starting pitcher Shane Smith was chosen to represent the White Sox in the Mid-summer Classic, but an argument could be made he was among the worst All-Stars on either team.
Now, Smith is not even on the Major League roster. He was demoted after three awful starts at the beginning of the season, and numerous players in Chicago have emerged as candidates to represent the White Sox at the All-Star Game. For the first time in a while, they may even have multiple players named, and perhaps one or two starters voted in by fans.
Munetaka Murakami named the most fun Chicago White Sox All-Star choice
Early on, it became clear that rookie slugger Munetaka Murakami is everything that the White Sox hoped he would be, and even more. While he does strike out quite a bit, his power and ability to get on base at a high rate is undeniable. Through 57 games played, he is hitting .240/.378/.560 with 20 home runs and 41 RBI.
Despite the fact that he is currently on the injured list with a strained hamstring, MLB’s latest power rankings name him as the most “fun” player for fans to vote for when it comes to the All-Star Game:
“There are a lot of factors in the White Sox’s stunning success so far this year, but the obvious symbol and manifestation of them is Munetaka Murakami, who may be injured right now but has been as purely enjoyable to watch as we all hoped he’d be.”
Given Murakami’s international popularity, he still may be voted in as a starter by fans even though he will have missed weeks of games by the time his hamstring has healed.
This being said, the White Sox finally have multiple players that have a case to be All-Stars along with him. Davis Martin is having a stellar season thus far, and Miguel Vargas leads AL third basemen in multiple offensive categories.
