Coby Bryant leaves no doubt in his opinion of Bears rookie Dillon Thieneman
The Chicago Bears signed Coby Bryant this offseason to fill a gaping hole at safety. They also drafted Dillon Thieneman at No. 25 to have another capable defensive back to potentially play opposite the veteran.
Bryant is coming off a Super Bowl-winning season with the Seattle Seahawks. He played a key role in securing the title for the franchise. The 27-year-old recorded 66 combined tackles, including 39 solo efforts, along with four tackles for loss and four interceptions.
Meanwhile, Thieneman enjoyed a standout 2025 season with the Oregon Ducks. He helped guide the program to the College Football Playoff semifinals. The first-team All-American amassed 96 combined tackles, including 52 solo efforts, and two interceptions.

Bryant expressed satisfaction with what he saw from Thieneman’s game during minicamp. The Cincinnati Bearcats product also highlighted that he will mentor the rookie next season.
“The biggest thing is just taking care of his body and being coachable, which he is,” Bryant said, via Bears Wire. “Very, very smart, intelligent. Obviously the tape speaks for itself too, but it’s going to be a long year for him just coming from the Combine. Taking it one week at a time and any questions, I’m always there for him.
“Me being a Year 5 guy and he’s a rookie so he wants to go full speed and everything, so in the individual drills we have to tell him to slow down because I’m not running that fast. I’m 27, he’s 21. The speed, he’s very coachable, he’s exciting to watch, he makes plays every day. He’s special.”
The Bears lost Kevin Byard II, Jaquan Brisker and Jonathan Owens in free agency. However, with Bryant and Thieneman in tow, the future looks bright for the team at the position, especially with their elite coverage skills.
