OTL: Do the Ravens Have Enough DB Depth?
It’s rare the NFL isn’t the talk of the United States’ sports landscape, and while the FIFA World Cup has interrupted the slow period often run by baseball, it’s not just soccer stealing the spotlight. That is, for Ravens fans, at least:

As the rest of the country mourns the horrendous performance put on by the US Men’s National Team, are the flurry of Ravens-related memes. Needless to say, nothing goes over people’s heads nowadays:
I blame John harbaugh

As it stands, ESPN ranks Baltimore 5th in the league for overall roster strength. They revealed starting lineup projections, while they were at it:
ESPN has the #Ravens roster ranked as the 5th best in the NFL.
Thoughts on their projected starters? #RavensFlock pic.twitter.com/Eoosg7UEW0

One thing that jumped out to me right away was Ja’Kobi Lane’s immediate insertion into the WR3 slot. Lane has immense potential, but in my eyes, is one of the more raw players on the Ravens’ roster. Is ESPN disrespecting Tez Walker here?

Either way, that debate continues to keep WR in the minds of fans and media members alike. While many debate whether a veteran addition makes sense for Baltimore, Femi Ayanbadejo is intrigued by WR Deebo Samuel:
The Ravens have a history of adding proven veteran wide receivers in free agency, from DeAndre Hopkins to Nelson Agholor, Odell Beckham Jr. and Sammy Watkins. They haven’t done so this offseason despite drafting two WRs. Could another veteran signing be coming? pic.twitter.com/VjZL5NA8tl

.@Obafemi30 is intrigued by a potential Deebo Samuel addition to the #Ravens roster:
‘He’s a guy that’s so unique. Like there’s not a lot of Deebo’s out there. There’s so many different things that he can do. He’s kind of a Swiss Army knife.’

The TE room has question marks, as well, with one of two rookies likely needing to step up to supplement veteran Mark Andrews. I don’t expect Baltimore to add to this room (especially with Declan Doyle disciple Durham Smythe involved early), but it is true that any Andrews injury or decline could be detrimental. How’s that for alliteration?
Mark Andrews is set to return to Baltimore for his 8th season in the NFL. But outside of him, the Ravens TE room doesn’t have much proven talent. Are Matthew Hibner or Josh Cuevas potential breakout candidates for the Ravens in 2026? pic.twitter.com/YVYoStDDjI

I could see a lack of weapons holding the offense back, but the defensive side has interesting rooms, as well. Last week, I mentioned the questions I had about the secondary. In the Safety room, things look good:
The Ravens added Jaylinn Hawkins on a two-year, $10 million deal, signaling Jesse Minter wants Kyle Hamilton back in a versatile, free-roaming role. Does Baltimore’s offseason approach give you confidence the defense can bounce back in 2026? pic.twitter.com/fdNR78KPut

Unlocking Hamilton not only allows him to wreak havoc, but also helps add clarity to the CB room, which was another debate on Tuesday. I’ll ask you: Is Marlon Humphrey a top-10 CB in the NFL? League executives don’t think so:
A panel of league executives, coaches, & scouts did not include #Ravens defender Marlon Humphrey in the top 10 cornerback rankings (via ESPN).
He was in the others receiving votes category.
Did the voters get it right?

NFL coaches/execs/scouts rank their Top 10 CBs:
1) Pat Surtain II
2) Derek Stingley
3) Christian Gonzalez
4) Devon Witherspoon
5) Trent McDuffie
6) Quinyon Mitchell
7) Denzel Ward
8) Jaycee Horn
9) Sauce Gardner

One of free agency’s last reliable options signed on Tuesday, meaning Baltimore’s ability to double-dip at the position becomes a lot harder.
Douglas was the last DB on the market that I thought fit the #Ravens
With the injury concerns we’ve had from Awuzie, Tampa and the recovery to Kone, I really wanted the extra vet.
Gotta hope we can keep clean health#RavensFlock https://t.co/ZlbLsvbEsC

Further, that means that any development from TJ Tampa, Bilhal Kone, or rookie Chandler Rivers could work wonders. Here’s more on why the uninspiring depth could be holding back Baltimore’s standing in the preseason defensive rankings:
The Ravens drafted Chandler Rivers in the 5th round of the NFL Draft this offseason. Draft experts felt like Rivers was great value for where the Ravens got him. Could he carve out a role for himself in the Ravens defense in year one? pic.twitter.com/aNougzMglP

I know they struggled last year, but come on, does the Jesse Minter hiring mean nothing?
