OTL: Offense Leads the Way Early at Camp for a Change

Happy first week of camp, Flock! After months of nothing going on, we finally have something to talk about and we can get some info out of these players for the first time since June.

Along with that we had our first media session with a very important player for the 2026 season:

Unfortunately, to this point no update in the Zay’s contract negotiations, but I still expect it to get done. I still don’t think a lot of fans or even media understand how important Flowers is to this organization. His upcoming pay day will put those doubts to rest.

Considering that Zay was able to put up numbers and make a Pro Bowl in the poor offensive environment here a season ago, especially with the offensive line being a train wreck, I am very optimistic about his chances with a better OL (on paper, anyway), and a genius at OC in Declan Doyle.

Speaking of that O-line.. while this hasn’t been confirmed by coaches just yet, it seems they have a pretty good idea about the OL configuration.

I love this. Let’s build continuity. While the center spot is still up in the air with the battle going on between several players, the positions around it seem to be set. We won’t dwell on the past, but I’ll say that I prefer this to some of the revolving-door style of configuration we got used to at previous camps.

Finally, I wanted to highlight one play from practice that stood out to me, which came c/o Ja’Kobi Lane:

Man, what a special catch this is and it opens up a conversation about this group of weapons for Lamar and Doyle. Lane is different. With his size and playing style, he can be that bigger-bodied WR who can go up and catch it at the high point and make spectacular catches. It’s pretty clear that the Ravens don’t want to bring in any of the vets on the market right now and instead want to see what they have internally. Lane is definitely a part of that reason why the team hasn’t signed a guy like Stefon Diggs. The team is giving chances to young receivers. Now, that may be risky. They did similar in 2020 and it was a disaster as guys like Myles Boykin were expected to play a huge part in the offense and it flopped.

But this is a new staff with a new environment so while someone like Diggs would catch the headlines, I am also fine with the team wanting to see what they have. If guys like Lane or Elijah Sarratt can show that they deserve to be on the field, that will be a big plus. If a vet was here taking reps from them right now, it could hinder that development and recognition.

Through two days, the offense is showing us signs that they could be a dangerous group with a bunch of young guys performing well. Usually in camp, the defense is way ahead at this point. While you could take that in a couple different ways, it’s still a welcome change around these parts.

This could be a special group with a mind like Doyle controlling everything. Let’s hope for continued good health from Owings Mills.
