OTL: Will Low Top 100 Ranking Provide Extra Motivation for Lamar Jackson in 2026?
Nobody stirs up meaningless controversy like the NFL. Everybody familiar with QB Lamar Jackson’s career understands how polarizing he is, especially when it comes to his ranking amongst his contemporaries.
Is it particularly important? No. Am I going to continue to harp on how ridiculous it is? Absolutely, I am!
For those who’ve missed it, Jackson was ranked the 69th on the NFL’s annual Top 100 list. Sam Monson and our own Dev Panchwagh are among those pointing out that it’s a clear rage-bait attempt:
This list is the perfect content for today’s world – it’s just pure ragebait.
Like, it’s objectively idiotic, but dressed up with the veneer of legitimacy (the PLAYERS voted!).
Masterpiece of lowest common denominator content creation. https://t.co/b7SreQpmk0

The Lamar slander is simply lazy shock opinions designed for the reactions they’re getting. They’re tales as old as time. No point in falling for the trap. #RavensFlock pic.twitter.com/N4yqf9OmfN

Come Tuesday, the ranking itself was old news. That is, until the players ranked above Jackson started to come out. Immediately ahead of him was Courtland Sutton.
Let’s Play Jeopardy
Answer: The Milky Way
Question: In what strange solar system is Courtland Sutton a better player than Lamar Jackson? https://t.co/fyg3BxzThm

Even if you throw positional value aside, it’s frankly an insult to rank Jackson below Sutton. In fact, even at his position, Sutton’s ranking over a completely different Raven is a bit of a laugher.
Courtland Sutton got ranked higher than Zay Flowers btw LOOOOOL pic.twitter.com/2uwsRCoX3G

Naturally, though, Jackson’s ranking is all over the media, with former Raven Bart Scott (inexplicably) noting that the QB hasn’t been good enough. Put simply, I have no idea where he’s getting this idea:
“Rent is due every day, and the rent wasn’t paid by Lamar Jackson last year.”@BartScott57 talks about Lamar Jackson dropping 67 spots in the NFL player rankings

At least Ryan Clark has his head on straight:
Ryan Clark on Lamar Jackson being ranked 69th on the NFL Top 100:
“Lamar Jackson has single-handedly carried the offense of the Baltimore Ravens, and this entire organization, since taking over as QB.” pic.twitter.com/PBp3mrKI22

Not only is Jackson a 2x MVP, but there’s also very few players with a more obvious impact stemming from their absence. With injuries being a consistent concern last season, Jackson was off to a pretty incredible start before performance for the team dipped:
Lamar Jackson in his First 3 games this season:
— 141.8 Passer Rating
— 65.1 CMP%
— 722 Pass YDS
— 9-0 TD/INT
— 118 Rush YDS
— 1 Rush TD pic.twitter.com/o1gH7UXssP— JacksonMuse (@Jackson_Muse) September 23, 2025
Further, even when Jackson was playing, his teammates failed to help him out. Without a doubt, it was a down year overall:

With all this talk of rankings going on, other NFL fans have expanded the debate to all-time rankings, arguing that Jackson’s lack of playoff success limits his ability to climb the leaderboard. To that I say:
This dude ruined Lamar & Herbert’s playoff resumes man I hate him. pic.twitter.com/NclVRGmJ9u

All jokes aside, it’s easy to forget that football is a team sport when debating the quarterback position. I’m usually not one to worry about personal achievements, but I found Jordan’s note here quite interesting and surprising:
Lamar Jackson has more 1st team All Pros than
Mahomes
Burrow
Allen
StaffordMore MVPs than
Allen
Burrow
StaffordAnd yet Lamar is behind all of these guys that are always put in-front of him.. makes no sense lol .

Why not let the debate rage on, though? We know Jackson has a knack for taking things personally, and although the outside noise could have contributed to the early career struggles he faced in the postseason, it may just add fuel to the fire now:
“This is Christmas in July. This is a bonus check out of the blue, a day off when you least expect it because YES, this will ABSOLUTELY motivate Lamar Jackson. I LOVE this!”@Chris_Broussard reacts to Lamar dropping from #2 to #69 in the NFL Top 100: pic.twitter.com/7QJ1SoL07a

There’s nothing that’d make me happier than for Jackson to put all these discussions to bed with a Super Bowl victory this season. If he’s able to pull off a run similar to that of Netflix’s “Quarterback” Season 3 star Joe Flacco, he’ll surely silence the haters:

Who knows, maybe he’ll be more appreciative of the hardware that comes with it
