Chicago Bears: Kyle Monangai dealing with concerning injury

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Chicago Bears running back Kyle Monangai was a non-participant at several practices last week at training camp, but the team chose not to provide any details until Monday.

As a rookie, Monangai ran for 783 yards and five touchdowns. The Bears had a powerful one-two punch with Monangai and D’Andre Swift. The running game was a key reason Chicago won the NFC North.

On Monday, Bears head coach Ben Johnson revealed Monangai has a soft-tissue injury. Chicago hopes the injury is on the “shorter” side.

“Bears HC Ben Johnson told reporters that RB Kyle Monangai is dealing with a soft tissue injury,” Johnson said, via a post on X from ESPN’s Adam Schefter.  “’We’re taking it day-by-day,’ Johnson said. ‘It should be on the shorter side.’”

Monangai entered the offseason motivated to have a better Year 2, noting he can build off his successes as a rookie.

“There are a lot of things I can improve on for sure,” Monangai said. “I was just coming into this thing just trying to gain the trust of the organization, gain the trust of my teammates, make them feel like they made the right decision in bringing me here, and then trying to help us win games at the end of the day.

“We fell short at the end of the season. But personally, looking at it, like I said, I did some good things and there are definitely some things I can build off of.”

Monangai should be in position to have a better year in 2026, if he can stay on the field.

The good news from Johnson’s update is that it appears Monangai should be available to practice soon. The bad news is the Bears have seen players deal with soft-tissue injuries that reappear in recent seasons.

Chicago is still worried about cornerback Kyler Gordon because of that problem.
