Chicago Bears secondary takes yet another injury hit during training camp
The Chicago Bears had one of the best secondaries in the NFL a year ago. Indeed, the safety room and cornerbacks combined to lead the league in interceptions, giving the Bears a fighting chance to win in every game. After finishing 2025 11-6 and winning the NFC North, many expect Chicago to be even better this upcoming year.
And while that should be the goal, the truth is that the Bears have some pretty significant questions on the defensive side of the ball. Almost all of their major contributors left in free agency, leaving Chicago with just the hope that their replacements will be just as good.
Unfortunately, many of those replacements have gone down with injury already.
Chicago Bears defensive back Cam Lewis went down with an injury

Over the course of the off-season, the Bears signed a couple of defensive backs to help fill the void left by those that departed in free agency. Among these were Coby Bryant and Cam Lewis.
Bryant, who won the Super Bowl last season with the Seattle Seahawks, was expected to be one of Chicago’s starting safeties. However, he was injured in practice this past week and could be out for weeks. Lewis, who was moved from the nickle (where he was filling in for Kyler Gordon), has also now gone down with an injury:
Cam Lewis got hurt on the second to last play of the first end of game situation. Limped off and is currently on the sideline on the ground. Cart came out for Lewis, who sits stretched out on the back and is taken into the building.

While the nature and severity of the injury have not yet been revealed, Lewis’ situation shines a bright hot spotlight on what is becoming a growing concern on the Bears roster. Do they have enough depth in the secondary?
Last year, the secondary was the reason why they were such a successful unit. The pass rush was virtually non-existent, and Chicago did next to nothing to address that part of the defense this off-season either. If the safeties and cornerbacks are going to start the year healthy/have injury issues this year, it could be a long season for the Bears.
