Lots of buzz surrounding the New York Jets during their 2026 training camp, with plenty to be excited about.  After the Justin Fields experiment didn’t work out, the Jets turned to Geno Smith, who looks to take advantage of his second opportunity as the signal-caller.  Smith has looked impressive, efficient in practice, and has created chemistry with his offensive playmakers.

The defense has more of a veteran presence with Demario Davis and Minkah Fitzpatrick bringing experience and leadership to a defense that struggled last season.  2nd overall pick David Bailey is looking to be the next difference-maker for the Jets and become their next great edge rusher.

Under Aaron Glenn, the Jets are looking for improvement all around the roster and are hoping to take the next step forward in their rebuilding phase.  As each day goes by, the Jets continue to move forward with their scheduled training camp and look to become better each day.

General Notes

  • As the Jets undergo renovations, a limited number of fans were allowed in attendance for Jets camp today; only season ticket holders were allowed.
  • Practiced in full pads; it was a controlled scrimmage practice.
  • Rookie TE Kenyon Sadiq did not practice as he suffered a setback in his recovery from hernia surgery; he’s out for a couple of weeks.
  • Penalties were a problem on offense, with false start penalties left and right.
  • Positive vibes and energy all around as players were hyping each other up after making plays.  Good for chemistry and morale as the team works on playing together.
  • The weather was a bit humid, with the heat playing a factor in practice today.
  • Garrett Wilson originally was not participating in practice.  He was in uniform but wasn’t participating.  He eventually found his way into team drills

NY Jets Offense Notes

  • Geno Smith finished the scrimmage going 12 for 20 for 157 yards and a TD.  He started 5 for 5 with 81 yards and a TD, but he cooled off, finishing 12 for 20 for 157 yards.
  • Isiah Williams will have a place in this offense, as he’s proving day in and day out that he’s more than just a special teamer.  He started off the day with a toe-tap TD from Geno Smith, where he showed great concentration and control after the ball was tipped by Minkah Fitzpatrick.  He also made a huge catch downfield on a 3rd-and-21 from Cade Klubnik.
  • There is a QB battle for the QB2 spot as Cade Klubnik, Bailey Zappie and Brady Cook all get reps on offense.
  • Klubnik didn’t start off well, as he threw an INT on his second pass attempt and committed a penalty for going past the line of scrimmage.  He would eventually rebound as he had a 50-yard drive against the starting defense, hitting Jamal Pritchett for a 14-yard TD.  He then connected downfield to Isiah Williams on the 3rd-and-21 (66 yards) and ended practice with a TD pass to Jelani Woods.
  • Bailey Zappie connected on a deep sideline pass to Quincy Skinner Jr for a touchdown.
  • The offensive line is looking to stay consistent with their pass protection.  The defense did get to the QB a lot as it struggled with pass protection today, but they still finished practice strong and made progress.
  • False start penalties were a big issue and need to be worked on.  Aaron Glenn mentioned that the team was fatigued and the heat got to them, but it’s something they will work on and improve.  Hopefully, the team gets conditioned and hydrates as well, not just in practice, but in game-time action.
  • Breece Hall and Braelon Allen continue to get reps at RB.  While Isiah Davis recovers from a knee injury, Kene Nwangwu was getting reps along with Chip Trayanum.
  • Breece had a rushing touchdown at the goal line, but was called back for holding.

NY Jets Defensive Notes

  • Defense won the day as they impressed all around
  • David Bailey looked disruptive early, getting a sack in practice.  He looked explosive off the edge and generated pressure all day.  One of the sacks he got was against tackle Olu Fashanu.  He hurt his ankle during practice, but coach Glenn stated after practice that “He’ll be fine”.
  • Dane Belton is a player to watch as he’s impressed in training camp.  He had a great practice, getting an INT off Klubnik along with blowing up a toss pass to Nwangwu.  Belton is certainly a player to watch as training camp continues.
  • LBs Kiko Mauigoa and Jamien Sherwood impressed in practice, making plays all over the field.
  • As the Jets look for their new CB1, Azareye’h Thomas looks to step into that role.  He started out rough as he had a horse-collar penalty on Omar Cooper, but after that he improved as he was great in man-to-man coverage and made pass breakups.  The goal is for him to take the next step in his sophomore season and improve as a lockdown corner
  • The defensive line was able to get to the QB as the defensive front gave the Jets offensive line a rough day.
  • The secondary will contribute more for the Jets as Minkah Fitzpatrick and Malcahi Moore look to control the back end of the secondary
  • VJ Payne suffered a bone bruise in practice, and Jonathan Kingsley has a thigh bruise

NY Jets Special Team Notes

  • Cade York and Jason Sanders battle it out for the starting kicking job.  Both kickers were efficient, going 5/5 on all their field goal attempts in the first round of attempts.
  • Austin McNamara is looking to continue off what was a great season as the Jets punter.  He looked like he didn’t miss a beat, as his hang time and kicking power were on point.
  • Isaiah Williams keeps getting reps at punt returner as he looks to build off his success on special teams.
