Bears’ Colston Loveland immediately caught new teammate’s attention

Chicago Bears tight end Colston Loveland turned plenty of heads during his rookie season. Still, he has his foot on the gas and is trying to take a further step forward in 2026.

After signing with the Bears over the offseason, it didn’t take long for wide receiver Kalif Raymond to see what Loveland is all about. Based on his work ethic, Raymond won’t be shocked if the tight end continues to breakout in 2026, via Clay Harbor of the Chicago Sports Network.

“That guy is exceptional. Just from a talent level, the way he runs routes, his hands. He is exceptional,” Raymond said. “He asks about every day, the jugs are there if you want it. That’s the part about Colston a lot of guys don’t see. He’s itching. That’s the part that’s going to make him great, he wants it that bad. I’m excited to watch what he does.”

With Loveland having a jugs machine at his house, the tight end routinely asks his teammates if they want to catch balls outside of practice. He and Raymond have caught 200 at a time somedays. The tight end is doing everything in his power to prepare for 2026 season.

While the campaign will mark Raymond’s first year in Chicago, it’ll be his 10th in the NFL. He has seen plenty of pass catchers. But after all that time, one of the newest Bears receivers still gets giddy when he sees Loveland operate.

Colston Loveland gives Bears dynamic threat 

Head coach Ben Johnson’s offense features the tight end more often than most. Alongside Loveland, the Bears also have Cole Kmet and Sam Roush on their roster. Chicago is sure to run plenty of 13 personnel in 2026. Because of that, Loveland’s opportunities to shine will only increase.

During his rookie campaign, the tight end caught 58 passes for 713 yards and six touchdowns. This is despite the fact he didn’t catch more than three passes in a game until Week 7. From that game on, Loveland had no fewer than three.

Now fully engrained into Johnson’s offense, Loveland is in a position to truly make a name for himself. Raymond is expecting that to come to fruition in 2026.
