Chicago Bears get major injury boost, but Ben Johnson’s Kyler Gordon update raises questions
The Chicago Bears could be facing an uphill battle over the next few weeks.
After their Week 2 defeat to the Minnesota Vikings, Chicago faced some obstacles. QB Caleb Williams left the game in the fourth quarter after suffering a hamstring injury and could be out for multiple weeks. He was replaced by Tyson Bagent, who also found himself on the injury report, as he remains in the concussion protocol.
Reports say he is unlikely to play, meaning journeyman QB Case Keenum is in line to get the start. Many on social media joked that they forgot Keenum was in the league, as he hasn’t taken meaningful snaps since 2023.
Fortunately, Ben Johnson announced that the Bears will be getting some help back in other areas, as Shemar Turner and Noah Sewell will begin practice today.
Johnson was also asked about cornerback Kyler Gordon, whose 21-day practice window opened today. His response, however, wasn’t very encouraging, as Brad Biggs posted the update on X this afternoon.
Asked if there have been any encouraging signs of late for Kyler Gordon, Ben Johnson replied, “I’ve got nothing to add there.”

Nothing to add? Not even a few words of encouragement?
It’s clear that Johnson is frustrated with this entire situation. Gordon has been rehabbing away from the team with trainer Montel Fleming, who said a few weeks ago that Gordon would “return soon”. This is likely an issue in the locker room as well, especially with Johnson, who hasn’t given the media or fans any update.
Considering the amount of money Gordon makes ($12.91 million salary-cap hit this season), I’m sure Johnson wants him practicing with the team, at the very least.
The Chicago Bears defense could really use Kyler Gordon, but when will he be available?

The timeline is up in the air, but with only three weeks to return to practice, we should have an update soon.
In all reality, we should’ve had an update today. If you weren’t concerned with Gordon’s rehab before, you certainly should be now. The proof is in Johnson’s response, which seemed fed up with the entire thing.
With DB Jaylon Johnson also struggling to get going, Gordon’s return could help this secondary. Tyrique Stevenson has also looked shaky and is dealing with a hamstring injury as well. As far as the secondary goes, rookies Malik Muhammad and Dillon Thieneman have looked the best out of the bunch.
The Bears will host the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday Night Football this week, with the likelihood of Case Keenum starting behind center. A 1-2 start is very possible.
