ESPN releases a ‘future’ power rankings, ranks Chicago Bulls as one of the worst
We are a few weeks away from “enjoying” Chicago Bulls basketball again.
After an offseason of big changes, the Bulls are looking to make a run at the postseason. A new front office, coaching staff, and player base will hopefully turn things in the right direction. Bulls rookie Caleb Wilson was selected 4th overall in this past summer’s NBA draft and is already the favorite to take home some awards.
Even though the team may be rebuilding, they added some key veteran players to the roster this past summer. 2025 All-Star guard Norman Powell signed a 2-year, $ 44 million deal, as he’ll bring leadership to a young locker room.
They also acquired center Nic Claxton from the Brooklyn Nets in a four-team trade. The 27-year-old is owed $23.3 million for the 2026–27 season and $21.0 million for 2027–28. The Bulls hope he’ll solve their problems on the interior.
In addition to those two, the Bulls have other talent returning. Players like Josh Giddey and Matas Buzelis will be relied on heavily if the Bulls want to contend this year, but who knows if they actually intend to do so? The recent offseason hints certainly suggest a desire to compete.
ESPN releases ‘future’ power rankings – And the Chicago Bulls were disrespected once again

Just days after ESPN released its top-100 player rankings, they’ve released another list that Bulls fans won’t be happy about.
This wasn’t your typical power rankings, as it ranked the teams on their future, specifically the years 2027-2029. This list was written by several NBA analysts, such as Ben Golliver, Zach Kram, Bobby Marks, and Dean Oliver. None seem to have faith in Chicago turning it around anytime soon.
The Chicago Bulls ranked 27th out of 30 teams, jumping just one spot from last year’s 28th ranking.
Kram wrote about their three-year outlook. “The Bulls’ long-awaited rebuild is finally underway, so even though they’re not expected to win many games over the next few seasons, at least those losses will come as part of a plan. Chicago hopes that its clean cap and appealing market can aid a turnaround once the time is right to try contending again”
Chicago Bulls fans should be excited about the season, regardless of ESPN’s rankings

Even though the roster isn’t elite, I expect them to compete in the Eastern Conference this season. Not for a championship, but to get out of the cellar. The team has too much talent to tank again.
Oliver took a shot at the team, saying, “The Bulls have been the most consistent team in the Future Power Rankings the past four seasons, including this one. Unfortunately, that consistency has been in the bottom range of the rankings.”
While that may be true, the turnaround within the organization should provide Bulls fans some hope. New head coach Tiago Splitter is coming off a great season with the Trail Blazers, and people should be excited about his arrival.
