Fever star Sophie Cunningham addresses big controversy outside WNBA
“No Hesitation,” Sophie Cunningham’s new podcast, released its second episode on Thursday. She discussed several topics about the WNBA with her co-host, basketball trainer Drew Hanlen. The Indiana Fever star also talked a big controversy outside the league: Sydney Sweeney’s sports betting ad.
She and the Fever will be back in action on Friday. They will take on the Toronto Tempo at Coca-Cola Coliseum for the first of their four remaining games. The team has already secured a playoff berth but continues to battle for a higher seed.
Cunningham started the campaign as part of the first five. However, Stephanie White moved her to the bench to add offensive firepower to the reserves, and she has done her job. The 30-year-old provides Indiana with a lot of hustle and timely baskets, helping the team turn around its season after a slow start.

The veteran guard shared her take on Sweeney’s much talked about advertisement. She emphasized that she like the Hollywood actress but felt like the promotion was “unauthentic.”
“I have so many takes, but first of all, does she even gamble on sports?” Cunningham said. “It’s just so unauthentic. Am I surprised of how she represented the brand? No. That’s what she’s made her whole career off is. Hey, don’t get me wrong, I like her. Everyone knows she is beautiful. She is hot. She clearly has my chest… I really like her and she sticks to her guns and she does her thing. And she’s her. Props to her.
“Do I like it? That particular ad, not really. I think it’s like, ‘What are we doing?’ But again, I’m not surprised, That’s what she’s known for. She’s going to do that. She’s making money. Go do your thing, sis.”
Novig released Sweeney’s ad on Sept 9. She received backlash for it as she appeared naked in the video. Athletes, celebrities and different personalities have also given their takes.
Meanwhile, Cunningham and Indiana are aiming for a higher playoff seed. They could finish as high as No. 2 or as low as No. 8 depending on game results in the final week of the regular season.
