Chicago Bears’ Ozzy Trapilo breaks silence after Week 6 injury return

Chicago Bears Ozzy Trapilo

When the offseason begun, left tackle Ozzy Trapilo’s status was murky at best. He ruptured his patellar tendon in the Divisional Round, with some estimations keeping him out of the entire 2026 campaign.

But Trapilo managed to beat the odds and was listed on the Week 1 53-man roster. Still, the Bears were cautious with their tackle. He was way ahead of schedule as is and Chicago didn’t want to risk a re-injury. So even when Trapilo returned to full practice, the Bears decided to keep him inactive.

That changed in Week 6 against the Atlanta Falcons, as Trapilo officially made his 2026 debut. He didn’t start and played just 17 snaps. Still, his returned showed off the tackle’s resilience in the face of adversity. The further he is removed from his injury, the more opportunities Trapilo will earn.

Left tackle has remained a question on Chicago’s offensive line throughout head coach Ben Johnson’s tenure. But the Bears remain hopeful that Trapilo can be the answer at the position.

Trapilo did get called for a holding penalty early into his return. He admits he was out of position to properly block. But this was his first live game action after a lengthy injury absence. The left tackle acknowledged his nerves needed to be settled out of the gate, via Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune.

“It was good to be back,” Trapilo said. “You’re always going to be nervous and then that first play happens, and it kind of all washes away just playing football. It’s something I’ve done pretty much my whole life. So it felt good. It felt really good.”

Moving forward, Trapilo will go through the tape and see what needs to be corrected. If he stays healthy and is able to get back up to speed quickly, it wouldn’t be a shock to see his snap count go up in Week 7 and beyond.

The left tackle says he has felt physically ready to return for a while now. Against the Falcons, Trapilo got to see his hard work pay off and get back to helping the Bears win game.

“It’s hard to sleep without knowing,” Trapilo said. “It’s been exciting the last few weeks getting closer and closer and then they finally said, pull the trigger, I’m dressing this week.”

“Physically I had been ready to go,” he continued. “They were being cautious. Props to them. They want to make sure they were doing it right. And then when they talk about it upstairs, that’s all above me. You have to prepare every week like it’s going to be the one, and it finally happened.”
